Miscommunication and Poetry

Nov 26, 2002 00:01

Well, apparently there was some miscommunication on my aunt's part...it was my great-great grandmother, not aunt who wrote all the poetry. It's still cool...and hell, that makes me a direct descendant! That's even cooler. So I figure I'll post some of her poetry for some entertainment.

All Souls Day
Souls long gone are fluttering
All about my room today;
Pleading, and reminding me
Of the prayers I neglect to say.
I feel their wings as they go by,
They hover close to me;
Until I lay my sewing down
And bow my head in piety.
With and earnest heart I pray:
"Dear Lord! forgive them please,
Let them stand within Thy light
And forever happy be."

Thanksgiving Day
Thanksgiving: Just what does that mean?
This work we hear so lightly spoken?
Does it mean just a day of feasting
On hot mince pie and tender turkey?
Thanksgiving: To me the word implies
A great deal more of serious thought,
Of prayer, deep meditation, and gratitude
To God for all that he has wrought.
Thanksgiving: I wonder how many pause
And count their blessings on that day?
Health, happiness, a comfortable home
With loved ones around, contented and gay.
Thanksgiving: oh yes, it means much more
Than eating and drinking to excess;
But who am I to scold and preach
Wile I've followed the crowd, I must confess.

Just a Thought
I imagine that the spirits
Of out loved ones gone before,
Are like atoms circling
Round about the heavenly shore.
If so, some day we may hear
Voices we loved so,
Singing praises to their God
While listening to the radio.
