So my contract expires in May, which means I'm looking for a job. My current job has been transitioning from teaching Ecology to teaching Math, but I am still a very non-traditional mathematician since my PhD is in Theoretical Ecology. Since the economy still SUCKS, as a backup plan to finding a new job, I applied to 2 Master's programs in Applied Math to give me more 'normal' credentials when applying for math positions.
One of the two schools I applied to is being a little bitch because I didn't submit GRE scores. I haven't taken the GRE since I last applied to graduate schools - more than a decade ago - because it seems stupid to me. I have a PhD in Theoretical Ecology and my research is all math. Why should they need GRE scores?!
In the last email I got, they tried to snot at me because "I hadn't taken a math class since 2000" my "MA is in Biology" and my "Doctorate is in Philosophy" - wait WHAT?! No you idiot, I have a Doctorate of Philosphy in THEORETICAL ECOLOGY. That's what Ph.D. means - Doctorate of Philosophy! It doesn't mean my Ph.D. was IN philosophy!!! Nevermind that said Ph.D. research is ALL applying mathematical models to biological systems - so I have too done math since 2000. Plus I'm TEACHING undergraduate math NOW. Idiots. Id.i.ots.
With that sort of stupidity, I don't care if they *do* throw my application out. If you don't know what Ph.D. means, I dont need a Masters from you.
