Title: An Interesting Night
Genre: Humor/Romance
Rating: T, for suggestive stuff
Pairing: Laura/Bill, Laura/Tom, etc
Summary: Bill's "responsibilities" are keeping them apart, so Laura turns elsewhere for affection...
A/N: This was the second fic I wrote for
sheamackenzie, though you may notice towards the end that I drew some pleasure from this as well ^_^
Laura stared at the files in front of her. It was no good; nothing in that pile of paperwork was going to take her mind off of her current predicament. The truth was, she was horny and the man she wanted was doing nothing to help her overcome this problem. Fortunately, Laura had an alternate. A very attractive, very available alternate.
“Tory?”
Her aide was in the room and in front of her in seconds.
“Yes, Madame President?”
“Send Mr. Zarek in please,” Laura instructed. “And make sure we’re not disturbed.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
Tory left and Laura rose from her chair to pace the room.
She felt terrible of course; she realized now that she had fallen hopelessly in love with Bill Adama, but it was clear from their conversation earlier that a deeper relationship between them was just not going to happen. While she wanted to stay true to her feelings, the fact was that she had not had sex since a week before the Cylon attacks on the Twelve Colonies. That was simply too long for a woman in her high stress job to go without a good frak. But Bill was far too noble to ignore their “responsibilities” to the fleet, so that left Tom.
Tom Zarek.
He had been interested since the beginning, of that she was certain. His advances had come to a climax, as it were, during their time on New Caprica before seeming to cease altogether. Laura could only assume her somewhat obvious preference for the Admiral had finally caused him to stop pursuing her.
Now he had his chance; Laura was his for the taking.
Not that she particularly minded. She had been tempted many times over, but again her feelings for Bill had held her back.
“You sent for me?”
He had arrived. Laura was pleased to see that he was wearing one of his green shirts today. He looked good. Damn good.
She smiled.
“Yes, actually. There is something of great importance that requires your assistance.”
“Oh really? And what is that?”
Tom moved across the room and leaned back against her desk. She loved it when he did that.
“Well I know we haven’t always been as close as you would have liked,” she began, moving closer so that her legs were pressed up against his. She ran her hands up his arms and trailed a series of soft kisses along his neck and up to his ear. “I think it’s time that changed.”
She nuzzled the skin right below his ear and realized that he smelled absolutely wonderful. Perhaps she should have done this a long time ago.
His hands had found their way to her hips, but she noted they didn’t draw her any closer.
“Laura…”
“Mmm?”
“I’m flattered, really. But I can’t do this.”
She pulled back slightly and raised an eyebrow.
“Something else on your agenda?”
“Someone else, actually.”
“Excuse me?” She stepped back and crossed her arms over her chest.
Tom frowned and ran a hand through his hair, clearly uncomfortable.
“Laura, I’m seeing someone.”
“And that’s stopping you from being with me, how?”
“Someone special.”
“Oh please,” she said sarcastically. “Just tell me you’re not interested, Tom. Don’t ask me to believe you’re actually involved in a serious relationship!”
“I’ve always been attracted to you,” he assured her, “and that hasn’t changed. But I’ve found someone that I honestly care about. I think…I think I love her.”
Laura was shocked into silence for a few moments. Finally, she regained the ability to speak and with it came mortification at her recent advances.
“Tom, I had no idea. I’m sorry,” she told him. “Sorry for putting you in such an awkward position that is. I’m…pleased, that you’ve found someone.”
He smiled and his eyes were kind as he looked at her.
“Thank you,” he said. “That means a lot.”
“So, what’s her name?” Laura cleared her throat and tried to force a smile onto her lips.
“Shea.”
Just saying the name caused his eyes to light up. Laura was mildly disgusted.
“Well she must certainly be something if you’d pass up the chance at a free frak with me!” Laura joked.
“Yeah she’s great,” Tom said seriously.
They were both silent for a minute, looking everywhere but at one another.
Damn these men, Laura thought. First Bill decided to be noble for the sake of the fleet and now Tom was refusing to cheat on the woman he loved. Damn them both.
“Well, I’m going to go,” he said at last, leaning in to place a chaste kiss on her cheek.
Laura said nothing as he exited her office; her face was hot with humiliation and she could feel tears of frustration well up in her eyes.
“Oh, Laura?”
She didn’t bother to wipe away the tears as she turned to face him again.
“Yes?”
“Shea has a friend, her roommate on the Space Park actually, who’s a big fan of yours,” he said. “Her name is Minerva. The three of us are having dinner tonight; would you like to join us?”
“That’s nice of you, but I think I’ll pass.”
Tom cleared his throat and looked at her pointedly as he went on.
“She’s single.”
Laura’s eyebrows rose as she understood his implication.
“Oh,” she said softly. She thought for a moment, and then smiled slowly. “Actually, I think I will take you up on that offer.”
Tom grinned.
“Great, see you tonight.”
Laura moved to one of the windows and stared out at the great circular ship that housed the two women Tom had mentioned to her. It could be an interesting night.
The End...
