Everyone thinks that David is loud and obnoxious. They all think that he babbles and rambles a lot, that he is hyper and excited and constantly running all over the place, an inexhaustible ball of energy, like the Energizer bunny, never stopping. They think he’s also such a happy-go-lucky person, and uncaring of what others think, only walking at his own rhythm and completely clueless and naïve. They see him as clumsy and reckless, never scared of anything, yet charming and lovable.
David is charming and lovable. You know it from first hand.
But he isn’t loud or obnoxious. David’s quiet and calm. He prefers to reflect on his problems by himself. He doesn’t talk much. David isn’t reckless... but he is brave, yet he’s insecure and afraid of so many things and gets easily embarrassed. He does care about others and what they think about him. But David often gets tired when he spends so much time worrying. Each night he’d curl up in your arms and let you sooth him to sleep. And he’s childish, but not that innocent. He knows what goes on and is always the first one to comfort you or the others.
David isn’t clumsy. He beats everyone in the band on his skateboard. He can ice skate and rollerblade faster then any of you. He’s agile and quick. But he always waits for others. He never walks by himself, he’s always ready to stop and take someone’s hand. Like when you wanted to learn skateboarding and he was walking beside you while you were on his board. And then you fell and he helped you up and hugged you tightly. Or when he was helping his niece walk her first few steps and tickled her tummy when she refused to continue.
David isn’t always the happy person everyone believes him to be. He’s sometime sad and tries to hide it from you until you’d coaxed him enough and he’d finally let a few tears slip and shake his head, smiling sadly.
“I can’t tell you yet.”
But David does ramble sometime. When he feels self-conscious and shy and he blushes brightly. Then he babbles on and on about how he likes your blue eyes, and he fidgets and his hands trembles and suddenly he’s no longer and yet still is the image of what everyone makes of him. His words comes out clumsily, he’s exasperated and flustered, he can’t look at you and he can’t stop talking mindlessly until he finally tells you again how he likes your blue eyes and how he likes you - no, loves you.
And then you kiss him and the David you know - calm, quiet, shy but sweet, confident and happy David - reappears, and this time, for good.
