kids don't need to watch where they walk...do they?

In Chicago this afternoon, I was on a two hour layover between Amtrak trains from Minneapolis to Michigan. I was trying [unsuccessfully] to dodge a hyper-active four year old in the food court area. I politely said "Pardon me, sir," to the small child. This usually prompts a smile from the parent at me calling their young child sir, and then to keep a hold on their unruly little beasts.

Not this time.

The little kid looks up at his mother like he's never been told what to do before. The mother looks right at me while petting his head and says, "Don't worry, sweetie. She'll watch where she steps. You don't need to watch where you walk. SHE'S the adult.

*dies a little inside*
