Glad everything turned out okay! I'm also appreciative of this community and the ability to discuss taboo subjects. It's comforting to know we're not alone.

Couldn't agree more! It can be hard to find safe spaces online and even if you have supportive friends and/or family, they may not have had the experience. I'm happy knowing I can have these taboo discussions as well as express really unpopular opinions.

when people I know tell me they're pregnant, my reaction is always "Oh no, what are you gonna do now!" and I have to stop myself because it seems the expected response is "congratulations!"

Haha, me too!

So true. I felt SO SCARED AND REBELLIOUS commenting to Silverwing's earlier post with a link to information about herbal abortion. Because seriously, talking about abortion as if it's ever an OK thing to do at all is completely against the rules of the patriarchy. But later I felt empowered. I <3 this community. :-D

Even though I hang around mostly liberal enclaves and live in a city where it's not an issue-- at large, women are still stigmatized from discussing abortion because it normalizes the experience. It's almost always men who spout this shit...men who never have to worry about needing one. That there should be less abortions and they're all for it, but they don't want it normalized.

You know what? It SHOULD be normalized. Because it actually IS a normal occurrence but there's so much backlash surrounding women who get them and medical professionals who provide them that it can seriously get you killed in some super religious areas. Fuck the patriarchy, I say abortion stories should be shared so we have less to be afraid of. I am definitely far less afraid after this scare after what I learned here from other women of different body types, medical histories, and backgrounds.
