my suggestion is to fit him with a collar that has little arms that reach over his head, positioning pictures of you and Devin in his peripheral vision, so he doesn't ever feel separated but cannot run into walls.
more seriously... does he respond to your voice or Devin's? does it calm him any? you could record your standard "you big baby! stop yer cryin'" and have it play in a loop whenever you aren't around. maybe that'd help the cranky SOB chill out. you can also tell him that: a) there are no kids, b) they aren't on the lawn, c) there is no lawn, and finally d) STFU ALREADY!. something like that.
i miss him, he's a consummate absorber of affection and while Margo's cats are awesome, they aren't cuddlers.

Bah, I know I'm grasping at straws. There really isn't much we can do. I just want the little jerk to be happy. Those sad, loud, bellows are so freaking heartbreaking. Especially when you know it's all in their head!! :P
