Last Thursday. Don't you hate it when you wear your best and most awesome job-hunting outfit to an interview, only to find out that you are so overdressed that you actually look foolish? I couldn't get a read on the guy interviewing me at all, he basically sat me down in his office and said "this is what the job entails, this is what you'll do, this is how you spend your day, do you have any questions?" Questions? Yes, I have questions. Questions like "who taught you how to conduct a job interview? Because they didn't do a very good job." So whatever. It sounded like an interesting job, but interesting in the "you have to work your ass off but we won't pay you a respectable amount for it" kind of interesting. So, despite the fact that he said he'd call me this week, I haven't held my breath.
This week, beginning. Don't you hate it when you get that feeling like you're a worthless piece of something that is freeloading off your husband and that no one will ever hire you at a wage you deserve? I got that feeling late Monday night, despite having done massive amounts of manual labor that should have left me feeling accomplished. Together with Jake, Emily, Eric, Rich, Renee, and Jeanne, we moved a ton of hay with rakes, hands, and tarps from the edge of the barn into the loft area. Anyway, even though I was tired and sore, I couldn't sleep, so I dragged myself out of bed and started job hunting. I figure, make the insomnia work for me, right? So I stayed up until about 2am and happened to put in an application at the community college where I have my one on-ground class. Tired and frustrated, I eventually crash into my somewhat-comfy Jake-and-Batman-filled bed and proceed to never get up ever again until 10.30 that morning.
Tuesday morning. That would be yesterday. I can't remember if I showered or not, but I think I skipped it so I could get my hair to hold a curl. Day-old-dirty hair always curls better, because you fry the oil and make it stay in shape. Gross, but true. I wear something nice-ish, something that makes me feel pretty and sexy, because for the last three weeks I've felt like a worthless pile of something. Good thing, because as I am about to walk out the door for my class, the college calls me and wants an interview that afternoon. Squee?
Yes, squee. The interview lasted all of 15 minutes, and they called me yesterday afternoon to offer me 19-20 hours a week. Not great, but way better than me sitting on my ass all day. In addition, there is a wicked sweet job out there that I am basically guaranteed as soon as they start interviews for it - which would mean I could quit working at the college and get a job doing something I can make into a career.
I'm feeling...whelmed...right now. It might be that because of Neverwinter Nights 2 finally running on the desktop Jake set up for me, I stayed up all night slashing orcs and bashing thugs. I quit playing at 5am, made Jake and I breakfast, read the paper, watched the morning news, and then went to the gym. Now I am rambling endlessly at the college library on a shared computer while I wait for the Human Resources Manager to get back from her lunch or her class or whatever so I can turn this paperwork in and get on with the rest of my day. Which includes a nap or going to bed at 8pm tonight.
Holy crap they are serving free food in the atrium. Score.
