152nd Revolution: On cramming history into a short month.

Feb 13, 2011 18:13

Well this month is shaping up to being another eventful one, granted I'm awfully wary of tomorrow. A guitar to the head and molestation would typically do that to you. Anyways I'd rather move away from discussing that one idiotic holiday which has lost nearly all meaning in the eyes of the masses towards something else.

In my world and more than likely a fair number of others, the United States government decided to dedicate a month for children to learn about the contributions of African-Americans, those whom immigrated or were brought over during the slave trade, to the country. Granted, this typically took place during the shortest month of the year. Though with how easily the people in my world get whipped up into a frenzy, I honestly foresee people lobbying to eradicate the notion of Black History Month in lieu of the current president being a black.

Now this is something which is nothing but a whole can of worms. While I honestly saw nothing different between the current head of state and the last three, many have come to say that it was a sign that racism as a whole had come to an end. Though for those of us with the ability of being hard to sway have seen that this isn't the case. Just thinking on the issue is enough to cause me to want to break something and engage in a bit of hooliganism like the more criminally minded of my culture, but I don't. After all somebody has to retain some semblance of objective sanity when everything starts to crumble.

this is why we get hbp, looking back, thoughtful huey is thoughtful, sane one in the chaos, deep as an ocean, way with words
