Pain
Huey Freeman
Pain as known by all comes in two forms, physical and mental, or emotional as most people would tend to call it. It can be a deterrent, stopping a person from even continuing on. Stepping on a hot sidewalk barefoot will make it so that a person wouldn't want to continue without something covering their feet while the memory of somebody important to you loosing their life leaves a wound so deep that you'll forever distance yourself from whatever or whomever it was that played a part in their demise. Though there's also the notion of pain being something which can spur one to succeed, to push past the conventional limits. The pain of being hurt in a fight will push a person to the point where they resolve not to be hurt, while the pain of loss can give a person the motivation to do whatever is necessary in order to safeguard those that are still around in their life.
Though the ultimate truth of pain is a base component of the human condition, thus making it something that connects us all and make us whole, for we all experience it on some level. Without it, there is the inevitable disconnect with the world and one's emotions and thus making a person less than human.
I can't believe I actually went through with that, though the allure of a token to stop a curse is tempting.
