Crazy Idea: Vamping Xander

I have a crazy idea that came about when a friend asked me to look at my Fanfiction’s main characters try and find the worst possible things in their mind that could happen to them in the story. So I got to Xander and here’s what I came up with… Becoming a vampire and killing his friends: I think that is his worst nightmare. And my friend and I jumped on the idea. But as it turns out vamping Xander is not as simple as it seems.

First off I’m writing my story in early season 5 starting right after The Replacement; so Xander’s not in the same place as he was in season 1 or in season 3 where the two episodes that we ever see Xander as an ‘evil character’ happen; one being The Pack and the other The Wish. But even these episodes aren’t perfect depictions of my ultimate goal: turning Xander into a vampire.

The Pack has one main problem Xander’s under a hyena possession and I’m unsure how much of what happens in this episode is due to being possessed by a hyena or due to Xander’s character flaws and the character growth of the 1st season and if said flaws and growth imprinted on how Xander acted under the possession and what if anything of this possession would still happen if Xander became a vampire four years later.



My Notes on Xander in The Pack

• Xander draws attention people notice him
• He kind of stalks
•  He’s confident
• Knows he’s not normal or knows only because the girls point it out?
  • XANDER: Sorry I'm late, I... just forgot that we were gonna be here. (sees Buffy's croissant) Hungry! (tears a piece off and eats it)
    WILLOW: Xander, you still want me to help you with geometry tomorrow? (Xander takes a swig of Buffy's cola) We can work after class...
    XANDER: Yeah. (to Buffy) What is this crap?
    BUFFY: Well, it *was* my buttery croissant.
    XANDER: Man, I need some food! Birds live on this! What?
    BUFFY: What's up with you?
    WILLOW: Is something wrong? Did I do something?
    XANDER: (to Willow) What could you possibly do? That's crazy talk. I'm just... restless.
• He is somehow in the leader possession of the pack (strange because hyenas are matriarchal)  
• The clothes not Xander-like at all very dark with a black jacket, black pants and dark brown shirt.
• Wants Buffy possibly because she’s stronger or the unrequited love thing
  • BUFFY: Get off of me.

XANDER: Is that what you really want? (Buffy struggles a bit) We both know what you really want. You want danger, don't cha? You like your men dangerous…. Dangerous and mean, right? Like Angel. Your Mystery Guy. Well, guess who just got mean….Do you know how long... I've waited... until you'd stop pretending that we aren't attracted....Until Willow... stops kidding herself... that I could settle with anyone but you? Now do you wanna hurt me? Come on, Slayer. I like it when you're scared. The more I scare you, (sniffs her) the better you smell.  (He moves in and kisses her roughly on the neck.)

The Wish one would think that this would be the perfect episode to watch to figure out how to write Vamp!Xander. However I came to the conclusion: that I just don't know how much of The Wish is really helpful we see so little of Xander and Vamp!Xander seems so not like Xander. That’s because in the Wishverse Xander lacks the fundamental charge of his life: Buffy and without her what has allowed Xander to grow over time from season 1 to season 5 isn’t there. But here are my notes anyway.



My Notes on Xander in The Wish

• Clothes white wife-beater back leather jacket (maybe calf-length?) leather pants also some sort of white/diamond necklace and boots (almost Spike-like in dress)
• Xander seems possessive of Willow. He seems to always be in front of her. And the way they walked into the Bronze. (Note the arm draping and hand holding)

 

• Willow’s the dominant one.
  • WILLOW: Play now?
  • XANDER: It's not that I don't appreciate your appetite, Will, but I thought we agreed it was my turn.

•  Xander would rather watch Willow play with Angel then help.
  • WILLOW: Oh... Maybe I went too hard on you last time.
    (Behind her Xander strikes a wooden kitchen match with his thumbnail and tosses it onto Angel's chest.)
    XANDER: Too hard? No such thing.
    WILLOW: Watch it with those things. You almost got my hair.
    XANDER: Sorry. Got carried away.
    (He tosses her the large box of matches.)
    WILLOW: Don't you want to?
    XANDER: No, thanks, baby. I just wanna watch you go.
• Xander seems like he’d be a thinker and a schemer where as Willow it’s all about fun. And Willow might me a little crazy too which could have an effect on Xander.
• He almost seems board that or lazy i.e. not wanting to torture Angel and thinking the machine is a good idea so that he doesn’t have to hunt to feed.  
• He doesn’t joke really but still talks like Xander.
  • XANDER: Had a prime kill. An old crush, actually, till that wannaslay librarian showed up.
  • XANDER: Not too bright, Book Guy. So you're a Watcher, huh? (smiles widely) Watch this. (Xander bites Cordelia, and then Willow joins him biting the other side of Cordelia's neck. They drain her dry and leave, tossing the key to Giles.)
    • (note when Willow feeds Xander puts his hand in her hair/ holds back of her neck)
  • THE MASTER: Vampires, come! Behold the technical wonder, which is about to alter the very fabric of our society….

Vampires: (cheer) Yeah! Yeah!
XANDER: We really are living in a golden age.

• Giles said Willow and Xander were the Master’s most vicious disciples

So I guess I’m left with a lot of complicated questions and with no end in sight. This whole idea will be a roller coaster of crazyness. But I think it will be awesome once its all done. I just feel I need a few more brains on the this idea.
