Productive weekend

Just watched Apocalypse Now Redux and wow, I didn't understand ANYTHING of what was happening in the movie.

It probably comes as no news that I was watching this movie because it was one of the references for the game Spec Ops: The Line. What I managed to understand of the movie is basically what I've heard about in the podcasts I heard: the main character (does he even have a name in the movie?) gets the mission to search for colonel Kurtz and dispose of him. He goes all the way following a river and makes regular stops to refuel.

I'm not exactly sure if the movie had some sort of mystical meaning or anything like that, because I was trying to understand in what exactly was the difficulty of following up with the mission other than them being in the middle of a war zone. Maybe the way it was narrated mean to show the humanization (or the opposite process maybe?) of the characters as they followed the course of the river?

Among the many stops they made through their course, the one that made less sense was the one of the French territory. What was the real meaning of this scene? I'm pretty sure Copolla didn't put it there on purpose, but really, it's just a bunch of rich people eating and discussing politics while screaming at each other.
And there is yet another scene that intrigued me:

Seriously, was this supposed to have a deep meaning?? Something like "look, here is an opportunity for you to drop your fruitless objective and keep your humanity while creating a new life as a naked girl says that there are two of you: the one who kills and the one who loves?". Is that why he keeps protecting his eyes? Because he doesn't really want to forget everything that he has seen so far and has nothing in his heart but darkness and the will to keep going further into the path that the river is tracing? Or is it just the director's decision just to randomly throw sunlight in Martin Sheen's face because it looked cool?

I personally don't find anything wrong with the ending, as I have heard many people saying. He got to the island, killed Kurtz and left, just like he was meant to do. Maybe people were expecting the captain to stay and take Kurtz's legacy, but for me that wouldn't make much sense. The main character didn't really seem to be affected by everything that had happened so far, not even the losses. In the end, he just grabs Lancer's hand and casually drags him back to the boat. Was he supposed to be scarred or traumatized? Because if it was, that didn't show up. Really.

Overall, I didn't really HATE the movie. I just didn't understand the message it was trying to tell me. The story was... okay. I did have an idea of what was going on, but only because of Spec Ops: The Line AND the podcasts i heard.

I also finished watching the first season of Attack on Titan. While the ending was pretty crappy, the story overall is actually interesting. I like the universe that has been created around a world full of giant, scary humanoid creatures, I liked a couple of characters here and there and the discussion it generates. Still, the idea of having to read the manga to follow up with the events is not very motivating, considering the amount of time I have available to do that.

Also FINALLY finished watching Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Now THAT's what I can call boring. I bet this is where Joel Schumacher took his inspiration to write those awful Batman movies.

Now for the third season of Game of Thrones. I already know much of what happens here because I already read the books, but I'm looking forward to see how they adapted the book to the series.
