Ten favorite movies watched in 2013

Aaand I watched the last movie I had time to watch this year, time to pick the ones I liked the most! But first...

Worst movie: Django Unchained
I honestly don't know why people thought this movie was so good. I thought it was boring (even with all the action sequences) and illogical. I don't know if this is my natural feeling towards any movie that regards slavery in the XVIII century, but for me, everything in this movie felt very distant, vague and uninteresting. I don't know what made me angrier: not liking this movie or having people who liked this movie stating that I'm an idiot who did not understand it. Honestly, why is it my obligation to like a movie just because it was made by Tarantino? So... BECAUSE the movie was made by Tarantino, that's enough reason why I should dislike romances and like a movie that makes no sense for me? No, thanks. If I were to watch a movie about the fight against racism, slavery and apartheid, I'd rather pick something less flashy and action-oriented, like The Color Purple.

And now for the good stuff:

10. The Dark Knight Returns part 2
I don't usually pay much attention to Batman animations that don't have Richard Grayson, either as Nightwing or as Robin, but this one kinda surprised me with how good it was, even in the absence of my all-times favorite DC character. Part I is good, but Part II is so much better. I'm glad Carrie Keller wasn't the bother I thought she would be, even if her role and abilities as Robin did look a bit forceful.

9. Despicable Me
This movie is actually adorable, I don't even have to say that there is no way someone wouldn't be a fan of the minions and their goofiness. Even besides their presence, the movie itself is very nice, cute and easy to watch.

8. Resident Evil Damnation
While I strongly dislike the Resident Evil movies, the animations are very neat, maybe because they are, in a way, what I expect from a Resident Evil movie: something related to the games' characters, but not related directly to the series. And while Leon is no longer my favorite character, I did like to see him having a frustrated attempt to romance Ada. And Sasha was also a very likable character in spite of all his sulkiness.

7. Warm Bodies
A lot of people complained about this movie because it held the ridiculous idea that a zombie could fall in love. Following the conventional "rules and standards" of what characterizes a zombie, I could indeed agree that the idea is kinda stupid, but if you decide not to take this movie seriously, it is actually a pretty adorable, silly love story and, in my opinion, still a better love story than Twilight.

6. Wreck-it Ralph
The main reason why most people didn't seem to like this movie is because it was sold as a movie about video games. In my point of view, it is just a regular Hero's Journey story, which I found really enjoyable. I thought that the story was okay overall, but the reference to popular games was a plus.

5. The Host
Some of the people with whom I frequently talk on Twitter never cease to get surprised when they see that I actually like romantic movies, and The Host was, at least for me, a very pleasant surprise. The book is horridly boring, but I thought that the movie cut out several parts of the book that I found completely unnecessary, which is absolutely great.

4. Man of Steel
I don't understand why so much people hated this movie. I thought it was pretty cool. Not my favorite hero movie, but still, one that I would be willing to re-watch.

3. Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith
How could I have taken so much time to watch this movie? Absolutely loved it, in spite of having lost a bit of the respect I had for Darth Vader as a character. At the same time, I don't completely condemn him. I think that if I were in his place, I would probably take the same path (but would at least try NOT to kill the person I was trying to save). I loved how this movie explained so much of the old trilogy.

2. Justice League: Doom
This is the one movie that made me get interested in the world of the DC Animation. It actually came with my Injustice: Gods Among Us game and is completely unrelated with it, but it's so goddamned good! From the DC animations, I think that this is the best one (right after Under the Red Hood). I can't wait for Justice League: War to be released, if it is on the same level as this movie, then it's a winner!

1. Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi
Where has this movie been in all my life? I usually can't spend so much time watching a movie without momentarily losing my interest, but this one got me hooked up for the whole two hours duration. Most Star Wars fans get upset with me because I like this movie better than The Empire Strikes Back, but in Return of the Jedi pretty much EVERY CHARACTER is badass.

Aaand I guess these are my favorites of the year. I hope I have the patience to watch more movies in 2014!
