1. I started with
this 'True Blood' screencap by . I cropped it, but didn't sharpen. Screencap is extremly dark so I duplicated base two times and set both to Screen 100%.

2. layer >> new adjustment layer >> curves. This will help in getting rid of this awful greenish shadow on their faces.

3. layer >> new adjustment layer >> hue/saturation. Just a little embellishing move. It will contribute nice, vibrant colors.
Master
saturation: 56

4. layer >> new adjustment layer >> channel mixer. Icon is really bright now. This channel mixer is going to darken it a little bit and remove some of blue shadows, wich doesn't look well.
Red: 109, -34, 23
Green: 0, 85, 0
Blue: 12, 12, 56

5. layer >> new adjustment layer >> vibrance. You can freely skip this step, because it doesn't bring in anything important.
vibrance: -23
saturation: 12

6. layer >> new fill layer >> solid color. Fill with #1f0909 and set to Exclusion 100%. It will cover colors, wich were still too bright.
♥
7. layer >> new fill layer >> solid color. Fill with #cca5a5 and set to Soft Light 100%. Icon before was full of green shadows and we got rid of them, but we can still see them, right? This fill layer will give to the colors more natural look.

8. Now there are lots of noises on dark places on the icon and faces are very pale (guy is a vampire and it's widely known that they're sometimes extremly pale but girl is a human so... ^^). So duplicate last color fill layer and set this one to Color Burn about 50%.

On other photos you can end up with an ugly red look. Just play with opacities of color layers and saturation and it will look great.
