I am so lazy but I'd like to give a little update on things...
I left for WMC 2 wednesdays ago, and it was a breezy 30 degrees when I left. It was also flurring out too which made me smile knowing I was going to a much warmer climate. Got in to miami around 5 pm to a torrential downpour. NO! But, in Florida, it rains for an hour and then stops. By nightfall it was 70 degrees out and we went down to South Beach. We met up with Tim's friend Eric and went to some party on a hotel rooftop. Drinks were EXPENSIVE-like 2 shots of jager set me back $25 and a friggin BUD LIGHT was $9. So we stayed for a bit, then walked around on Washington Ave. I met up with Benji for a tad bit but they were going to some Chicago House party and I sure as hell did not feel like seeing the same fucking CHICAGO DJ's that I can see whenever the hell I want.
Thursday I laid out on the beach all day, and this is what I ended up doing each day we were out. Our hotel was on right on the beachfront. We stayed a bit north over in Miami Beach. The actual conference was down the street @ the Wyndham. The Eden-Roc hotel which was also close by was throwing free pool parties each day. I saw Keaton, Hive and Grooverider there...for FREE! by the beach! Then we ended up @ the Mansion for the Om Records party. Thankfully we had presales and it only cost us $20-they were charging $40 at the door! I got to see Farina, Kaskade, Colette, The Greenskeepers, Jt Donaldson and Lance Desardi. Beers were actually $6 which is NOT bad! Oh yeah we snuck in some vodka, jager and jameson in flasks which helped;)
Friday being extremely hungover I managed to get up early and not waste the day and go tan again..this time we went to the Eden Roc hotel were to our delight the Sauza people were there handing out free tequila cocktails! Then Christine suggested we go out to Coconut Grove which ended up being a $40 fucking cab ride. It was a nice spot tho-an outdoor restaurant/shopping area. We ended up at this bar called Fat Tuesday that had dollar tequila shots..needless to say we stayed there a little longer then we thought!
Saturday was our last full day-and we went to Ultra. I wasn't sure how much it was going to be at the door because the presales were $65. Turns out it was $83 at the door!!! There was a guy selling presales for $60 so we ended getting in cheaper. WOW..this place was fucking huge. The party was at the Bayfront Park which was right on the ocean. It was beautiful out. Things were a little disorganized trying to get in-it was similar to herding a bunch of cattle to their deaths at a slaughterhouse. Eamon had on a backpack containing all our cameras and some water. We get to the front, only to discover they aren't letting backpacks in. This is after we waited 45 minutes to get in! So they let Eamon out so we could find a place to stash our bags. He ended up hiding my backpack between a crack in the wall so nobody could find it. Once inside, we saw many people that had snuck their shit in..grr I wanted my camera there so I could take pics of this freakin party.
Main Stage-Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto, Paul Van Dyke, and some other crap. EW. Ok, how in the WORLD do SO MANY PEOPLE LIKE THIS SHIT? It was nuts. I can't even imagine how many thousands of people gathered at the main stage. I caught a bit of Oakenfold's set, but, this shit just isn't my thing. So we ended up chillin in the DnB tent most of the night. I did catch a little bit of Moby's performance. I did also see Rabbit in the Moon and Crystal Method. But the best time was in the DnB tent-Roni Size, Adam F and Craze, DJ Rap, Planet of the Drums!!! Mmmmm. I'd have to say though, the best set of the night hands down was Carl Cox. It was the first time I got to see him, and he was fucking amazing. I do believe this party was worth the money I paid-there were a lot of Dj's I did and didn't want to see. Definitley quite an experience.
Miami is cool to visit-but I was glad to be back in Chicago, were people are not pretentious fake douchebags and were we HAVE GOOD FOOD!
Damn..this was long!
