We are flying home on Friday afternoon, and it's Sunday. So we finally rolled up our sleeves (figuratively) and started packing seriously.
We've got a shipping service which sent us some big boxes a few weeks ago, and had filled one box up to around 80% before we went to Scandinavia, but nothing since. We actually came with two huge luggages, one medium one, and one cabin-sized ones (and we both carried rather large carry-on bags as well) so those need to be brought down from above the wardrobes and filled as well, but we're starting on the boxes first. The boxes will only arrive about 3 months after we get back, and can't contain any foodstuffs, so we end up deliberating what we don't mind not having for around three months and pack those in, taking care not to overload each box. There's a crockpot, two roll-up picnic mats, a baking tin, my salsa shoes and winter clothing in one of the boxes, the other that we managed to fill today contains amongst other things, 19 books (many of them new, since books are so much cheaper in the UK), some of my Doctor Who DVDs, my Melissa shoes, a hand blender, a colander, bath towels, and parts of a wire shelving unit (we have to put the other parts in our biggest luggage and it just fits exactly). We're predicting we'll end up with maybe another 1 or 2 boxes, there's still another 20+ books, a large saucepan, a small rice cooker and yoga mat, amongst other things, that we intend to ship back.
We keep having the same conversation about things on whether we would ship them back home or donate them to someone here. Things like the vacuum cleaner (we don't have carpets at home), the heater (you can't buy something like this in Singapore! but then, you also don't ever need to), the nifty utensil drainer rack and our super compact dish drainer etc. Things we loved having the past 10 months but are now wondering whether we would be able to find something nicer for cheaper back in Singapore, and that's not even thinking about how we would only need them about a year from now, since we haven't bought our own house yet. Interesting times.
It was Pride at London yesterday, though we completely didn't realise it until we were actually out and about. I suffered from what must have been severe indigestion (bloated gassy tummy, so bad it hurt for a few hours), quite possibly from the overly rich and overly starchy chinese lobster noodles we had gone all the way to Bayswater for, and was probably in my most I-hate-crowds mood by the time we were weaving our way through the outskirts of Pride. But I'm really quite happy that #lovewins.
