1. I realise that I only blog here to reach out to my lovely fellow fans of Sherlock and the lovely people I met in London back in 2011 and some other friends who are still on LJ. This is also mostly the same group of people who I don't actually communicate through Facebook or Twitter. But I still love you guys.
2. I am going to be in London from 29 Sept to 8 Oct. I am looking forward to it A LOT. This will be my first real break from work for quite some time now. My friend asked me when was the last time I had a real holiday, an overseas holiday, to which I was about to reply Nov 2012 (Japan), when she added that it had to be a holiday where I did not bring my work laptop and checked work emails during the holiday. At that point I paused very visibly and started counting. I ended up with March 2009. She was quite aghast.
3. The past three worktrips I've been on (Lima in Peru, Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia, and Bandar Seri Begawan in Brunei) has clearly demonstrated to me how much Singaporeans actually work, specifically how much of our lives we take for granted would be devoted to work. Or maybe it's just how much I work. Hmm.
4. Meanwhile, the sheer amount of work I've had to do for my worktrips is pretty amazing when I actually have time to slow down and THINK about it, instead of just biting my lip and doing them. Specifically, the fact that I was in a position during my last trip that other people had to work six years in their department to begin to start doing (and I'm here 8 months in from when I first started at this organisation) was pretty scary at first and just got plain stressful when I was actually doing the work. I don't even think I'm fully qualified to do it lol, not to mention how I'm definitely not paid well enough to do this permanently. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, that's because this is all confidential lol.
5. What I said in point 4 is linked to the fact that in general, I've been given far more responsibility and have work that is very much different from my background than I ever expected when I first joined this organisation. For example, I'm handling work that is typically given to lawyers, and I have had close to nil training in law. I have actually been asked several times by different people why I did not think to pursue a law degree or indeed, why I still don't intend to take up a postgrad law qualification. Nevertheless, added responsibility, though stressful, is challenging and if I have enough time to destress, pretty interesting and fun.
