EPILOGUE
Kanpai!!!” The clinking sound of glasses being tossed with each other fulfills the garden.
“Everyone, have your time!” Mr. Chinen shouts excitedly.
The garden is now full of laugh and smiles. Everyone has their own glasses and drinks from it. The foods have been served too, so they can have their meals. Soon everyone scatter everywhere, having some talks with the others. Mrs. Nakayama walks closer to Chinen after having some talks with Saaya.
“Congratulations for both of you! You’re awesome!” Mrs. Nakayama compliments. Chinen immediately do hi5 with Yuma who stands near her.
“Thanks, Nakayama-san.”
“Reaching the highest score for the graduation in modern times like now isn’t easy yo. You’re really something.” Saaya gives applause for her little sister and Yuma.
“Thanks, Saaya-nee.” Yuma scratches his head. Chinen hugs her sister.
“Thanks, nee-chan.” Saaya pats the latter’s head.
“And it’s really a special occasion ne, for our big family to reunite like this.” Saaya says as she looks at her surroundings. Chinen nods and pulls away. She looks at the surrounding.
The big family gather there. Mr. Chinen tags his family along from England to Japan, and will stay there for 3 weeks. Chinen’s mom who now can be called as Mrs. Nishii, also came with her husband and a son named Nishii Yukito. He has married to Mr. Nishii, and changed her name into Nishii too. Yuma’s parents and sister are also there. Saaya also brought her husband. She has married a year ago, and now her husband helped her to run the giant business of the family. And it makes a big progression too, thanks to Saaya and her busband.
But now, they are there, in one villa of Chinen family, celebrating the graduation of Chinen and Yuma. Yuma graduated a month before Chinen, and came back to Tokyo. And after Chinen graduated too, they planned to have a party for both families to celebrate that. And Chinen invited Yamada too.
“Is it really okay for me being there?” Yamada whispers to Chinen nervously. Chinen nods.
“It’s okay. You don’t have to worry about that. We’ll have great time together. Besides, consider them as your own family. They are happy to have you here too.” Chinen taps his back. Yamada smiles.
“Looks like your family’s relationship is getting closer ne. Look at your parents.”
Chinen’s parents, along with their new partners, now are having a talk. And they look very happy. It makes Chinen feels happy too. Seeing her family reunite like this is a happiness for her. Although they came to Japan when Saaya got married, they didn’t talk much because they have to rush to continue their works.
“They have had their new lifes, and I think they enjoy it. Mom and dad now are here as siblings. As a brother and sister. But also as my parents. Although I still don’t have a clear status of whose child am I, but I feel very happy with this situation.”
“You’ve said that they’re your parents, right? It’s clear, Yuri. You’re their child.” Yamada smiles and caresses her head. He has getting used to call Chinen by ‘Yuri’. And Chinen calls him with ‘Ryosuke’. But still, there’s no relationship between them.
Chinen giggles. “I’ve said it by myself ne. Thanks for reminding me about that.”
As they want to continue talking, suddenly a boy who’s about 8 years old approaches them. Suddenly he holds Chinen’s hand tightly.
“Yuri-nee, look what I’ve brought for you.” He smiles cutely. Chinen bends down so that her face is in the same level as Yukito.
“What?”
Yukito reaches something from his pocket and gives it to Chinen. A wristband made of soft transparent cloth, and there’s a beautiful small corsage on it too. He tries to tie it on Chinen’s wrist, but can hardly make it neat. Chinen giggles and turns her head at Yamada.
“Can you help Yukito?” Yamada nods and bends down when suddenly Yukito turns his head at him.
“I want to tie it on Yuri-nee by myself!” Somehow the rivalry aura can be seen from Yukito. Yamada shrugs his shoulders and stands up. Chinen just smiles. Hie little brother is so cute. “It’s finished! Pretty, right?” He smiles in satisfied looking at Chinen’s wrist. Chinen nods.
“It’s really beautiful. Arigatou, Yuki-kun.” She pats Yukito’s head. Yukito looks at Yamada and smirks. Yamada feels surprised. What’s this boy’s plan?
“Would you mind to grant my request, Yuri-nee?” He smiles cutely.
“Of course I will if I can. What’s your request?”
Yukito flashes his smirk again to Yamada, then turns his head back to Chinen. He doesn’t answer Chinen, but cups Chinen’s cheeks, and gives a peck to Chinen’s lips. Both of Chinen and Yamada feel surprised of the boy’s action. “Hehe. I got your kiss, Yuri-nee!” He claims happily. Chinen just laughs. His little brother is so cute. And then Yukito looks at Yamada. “Yuri-nee is mine. I even have kissed her.” Yukito stucks his tongue at Yamada before then runs away from there.
Yamada has his eyes widen. He can’t believe the boy likes Chinen and even steals her kiss and considers him as his rival.
“My Yukito is very cute ne.” Chinen stands up and looks at Yamada. But she frowns seeing Yamada’s blank expression. “What’s wrong?”
Yamada shakes his head. “Nothing.”
Chinen smirks while poking his arms. “Are you jealous? I’d be very happy if you say that you’re jealous with Yukito.”
Yamada shakes his head nonchalantly. “No.”
“I know you’re jealous. It’s your fault, Ryosuke. You haven’t asked me to be your girlfriend yet.” Chinen teases him. “When will you say that you love me and make me your girlfriend ne, Ryosuke?” Chinen asks cutely. Yamada takes a glance at Chinen. He rolls his eyes.
“Never. I won’t say that I love you and ask you to be my girlfriend.” He says in plain tone. Chinen narrows her eyes.
“Are you serious? Haven’t we closed enough?” She asks sadly. She feels shocked for Yamada’s answer. Although maybe it’s just a joke, but it still jabs Chinen’s heart.
“Yeah, I’m deadly serious. It’s true that we are close, but still, I won’t ask you to be my girlfriend.” Yamada replies. Chinen looks down and smiles bitterly.
“So you’ll consider me as your family again?”
Yamada nods. “Yeah. I’ll consider you as my family again.” The sentence blows Chinen’s hope away. And she really wants to cry right there. “But it depends on you. If you accept me, we’ll be a family.”
Chinen frowns and looks at Yamada. “What do you mean?”
Yamada smiles. He takes her hand and holds it tight. “Chinen Yuri, I love you. Will you marry me?”
Chinen doesn’t know where her soul is anymore. She stares at Yamada blankly. It’s shocked her too much.
“I know you must be shocked. But I’m serious, and I think it’s the perfect time to ask you.”
“You must be kidding me.” Chinen murmurs while still staring at Yamada. Yamada shakes his head.
“I’ve said I’m serious.”
Chinen starts to cry. Yamada thought that she’ll cry in happiness, but…
“You’re very mean, Yamada Ryosuke!” She punches Yamada’s shoulders weakly while using one hand to wipe her tears. “I hate you! You shocked me with saying you’ll never say you love me and asking me to be your girlfriend! You know, you have crushed my hope right away!!!” She continues punching.
Yamada tries to calm her. “Hey, but it’s true right? I won’t say I love you and ask you to be my girlfriend because I will say I love you and ask you to be my wife! Not a girlfriend!” He tries to hold Chinen’s hand.
“But you shocked me!!!” I hate you!!!” Chinen is still sobbing. But her punches be weaker and weaker, and she dips her head on Yamada’s chest. She hugs Yamada tight. “But the answer is I do.”
Yamada widen his eyes, but then it turns to be softer. He smiles while hugging Chinen back. He caresses her back. “So you accept my proposal?”
Chinen nods on his chest. “Yes, baka Ryosuke!” She’s still sobbing. Yamada can’t do anything again but hugs her tighter. He’s smiling so wide. He has found his family. A cute wife that will accompany him for the rest of his life. And so does Chinen. Now she is crying in happiness that her wish is come true. She has got a nice result for all of her efforts.
After a while, she pulls away from Yamada while still wiping her tears.
“Look what have you done to me. Now my eyes are red and swollen whereas it’s my party.” Chinen protests. “And you still say that it’s the perfect time? Baka.” Yamada pats her head softly.
“It’s a perfect time, Yuri. Since both of your parents are here, I can ask for their blessings immediately.” Yamada leans in to peck Chinen’s cheek. But after he pulled away, he looks at Chinen’s lips with frown. “Yukito takes the first step before me. He kisses you there.” Yamada says with his narrowed eyes stares at Chinen’s lips.
Chinen looks at Yamada with confused expression, but as she realizes that Yamada is staring at her lips, she blushes madly.
“Hey! He’s just a kid!” She protests.
Yamada ignores her and places his hands on her shoulders, leans in to capture the soft lips. Chinen stands nervously without any motion. Her face has turned red, and she closes her eyes. But suddenly…
“No one can kiss Yuri-nee except me!” Suddenly Yukito sneaks in between them, and covers Chinen’s lips with his palms. Both of Chinen and Yamada looks at each other nervously, but then blushes realizing their action is caught by the little boy. Yukito turns his head at Chinen and frowns. “Yuri-nee is crying! You must have done something to her! I gotta go tell everyone!”
Before Yamada or Chinen can stop Yukito, he has run away while shouting. “Yuri-nee is crying! Yuri-nee is crying!” Of course suddenly everyone’s attentions placed on Chinen and Yamada. They immediately come there and realize that Chinen’s eyes are swollen and red. Yuma comes to her in panic.
“Chii! What’s happened? Did sensei do something that hurt you?” He glares sharply at Yamada. Yamada just gulps and freezes. This boy is scaring him.
Before Chinen can explain, Yukito has spoke.
“Yeah! This oji-san did something to Yuri-nee! He makes Yuri-nee cry!” He says in confident. Everyone has their eyebrows lifted after hearing it.
“What has he done, Yuki-chan?” Yuma asks.
“He was about to kiss Yuri-nee! Fortunately I stopped him!” Yukito explains. And the gasp can be heard everywhere, while Yamada and Chinen has their face redder than before.
“Is it true? What it means?” Saaya suddenly asks with her eyes still opened wide.
“Did he force you?” Yuma asks to Chinen.
And Chinen feels dizzy because the fuss keeps continuing. She has to explain what has happened before there are any misunderstanding there.
“Listen! Ryosuke didn’t do something bad to me!” She suddenly shouts, makes everyone stops blabbering. “He proposed me!” She continues with blushes crept again on her face. Yamada pretends to hum beside her, and rolls his eyes meanwhile he has all eyes set on him.
Saaya suddenly comes to Chinen and hugs her. “Omedetou, Yuriiiiii!!!!!” She cries in happiness knowing his sister is going to get married.
“You did it, sensei!” Yuma taps Yamada’s shoulders, and Yamada smiles to him while saying thanks. But then Yamada gestures Chinen to come with him. Chinen pulls away from the hug, and Yamada takes her hand. They walk to Mr. Chinen and Mrs. Nishii who’re still talking in the gazebo.
“Mr. Chinen and Mrs. Nishii…” Yamada starts nervously. Mr and Mrs. Chinen, also Mr and Mrs. Nishii stop their activities. “I know you haven’t known me that well, and I am much older than Yuri.” He holds Chinen’s hand tight to cover his nervous. “But I really love your daughter, and I want to marry her. So, please give your daughter to me.” Yamada catches a deep breath and bows. Chinen smiles.
“Onegai, mom, dad.” She bows while her hand still connecting with Yamada’s.
“Stand up first.” Mr. Chinen says. Yamada and Chinen straighten their backs. “How long have you been in a relationship?” Suddenly Mr. Chinen asks seriously to Yamada. Yamada and Chinen looks at each other and gulps. “I never heard that you are in relationship before, Yuri. All I heard is just you have met the orphan boy your grandpa told you before.” He continues. “You’re not a lover right? There’s no relationship between you two.” That stabs Yamada and Chinen perfectly. All of what Mr. Chinen has said is true after all.
Yamada holds Chinen’s hand tighter.
“How can you run your marriage life later if you even hasn’t been in a special relationship before? You have to take it step by step. You won’t be able to build a perfect family life that instant.” Mr. Chinen says coldly to Yamada and Chinen.
Chinen looks down. She is about to cry when hearing a groan from her father. She looks up again, and sees Mrs. Nishii whacks Mr. Chinen’s head.
“Enough. The joke is too far this time.” She says nonchalantly. Then she smiles and looks at the dumbfounded Chinen and Yamada. “Gomen ne. This baka brother of mine often does it. He also did the same when Saaya said that she was proposed. Don’t mind him, okay? And absolutely I’ll give my blessing to both of you.” Mrs. Nishii smiles widely to Yamada.
Mr. Chinen scratches his head. “Haha. Okay, I admit. It’s just a joke. Don’t worry, and gomen ne. I’m happy finally you have found the one that you love, Yuri. Be happy with him, okay.” Mr. Chinen smiles.
Yamada looks at Mr. Chinen. “Does it mean… that you’ve blessed me and Yuri?”
Mr. Chinen laughs. “Of course!”
Chinen immediately squeals and hugs her father and her mother. “Thanks, mom, dad. I love you.”
Mrs. Nishii caresses her. “You should say that to Yamada-kun, right?” She teases Chinen.
“I love you too, Yuri.” Mr. Chinen pats her head.
But suddenly the intimate of the family is disturbed by a little boy.
“It’s not true that you’re going to marry him right, Yuri-nee? I thought you’ll marry me.” Yukito blinks, and his eyes are teary. The family pulls away from the hug. Chinen caresses the boy’s head.
“I’ll marry him, my little brother. You know, there are many girls out there, and you can marry one of them later.” Chinen smiles. Yukito starts to sob.
“But…”
“Leave him to me, Yuri. Don’t mind him, okay? Have your time with Yamada-kun.” Mrs. Nishii cuts Yukito’s sentence and lifts him. She caresses his son’s back and smiling to Yamada.
Chinen nods, and encircles her arms in Yamada’s arm, and immediately walks away from there before Yukito cries louder. Yamada drags her to a quiet spot, far from the other who can’t wait to hear about the story of how Yamada proposed Chinen.
“I felt very nervous.” Yamada says while caressing his chest. Chinen giggles.
“It’s the first time I saw a popular writer being so nervous like this.”
“Haha. I haven’t been in love before. So I don’t know how to act properly in things like this.” Yamada smiles.
“I’m your first love? Even at your age?” Chinen has her eyes widen. Yamada laughs.
“Yes you are. Happy?”
Chinen nods. “Maybe you’re not my first love, but you’re the first man I love this much.” Chinen laughs.
“Another fact I know that I won’t be your first kiss.” Yamada snorts. Chinen giggles. Yamada still gets irritated about the scene before, where Yukito kissed her.
“But I’ll be your first kiss, deshou?” Chinen smiles.
“I have to make it true then.” Yamada leans in and catches Chinen’s lips before lets Chinen speaks anymore. It’s the first time he feels this kind of softness and warmness. And for Chinen, it’s also the first time she has the lips of the man she loves on her lips. Yamada takes an interval to say ‘I love you’ on Chinen’s lips before then giving her back the lovely sensation they have before.
My first love got my first kiss. Maybe I’ve take some random walks before then get the real essence of loving, and to be loved. There are still more I have to learn, I have to see, and I have to experience.
My relationship with Yuri maybe started could be seen in many ways. Starting with an uncle who lives happily after met a cheerful niece. Or maybe it’s about a fans who accidentally met her favorite writer at a bookshop. Or maybe it’s about a grandchild of a man who met the boy who was used to be visited in the orphanage by the man. But it also could be seen as a man who met a girl that is destined for him, right?
No matter what happened in the past, what will happen in the future, all I see is just now I’m walking with a girl named Chinen Yuri. I’ll spend the rest of my life with her, and giving her the best happiness ever.
I’m a writer. I’ve written many stories, and won some awards. I love a happy ending for the story I wrote. My life is quite different from the plot on my story. I didn’t instantly get the happy ending I wanted. Starting from nobody, someone has turned me into somebody. I’m not young anymore, but I still have young spirits inside. If people said it’s too late to have the first love in this age, I could proudly reply, that whatever you said, it’s still my story. My own life story. A writer’s story.

But after he pulled away, he looks at Chinen’s lips with frown. “Yukito takes the first step before me. He kisses you there.” Yamada says with his narrowed eyes stares at Chinen’s lips.
Chinen looks at Yamada with confused expression, but as she realizes that Yamada is staring at her lips, she blushes madly.
“Hey! He’s just a kid!” She protests.
Yamada ignores her and places his hands on her shoulders, leans in to capture the soft lips. Chinen stands nervously without any motion. Her face has turned red, and she closes her eyes. But suddenly…
“No one can kiss Yuri-nee except me!” Suddenly Yukito sneaks in between them, and covers Chinen’s lips with his palms. Both of Chinen and Yamada looks at each other nervously, but then blushes realizing their action is caught by the little boy. Yukito turns his head at Chinen and frowns. “Yuri-nee is crying! You must have done something to her! I gotta go tell everyone!”
Before Yamada or Chinen can stop Yukito, he has run away while shouting. “Yuri-nee is crying! Yuri-nee is crying!” Of course suddenly everyone’s attentions placed on Chinen and Yamada. They immediately come there and realize that Chinen’s eyes are swollen and red. Yuma comes to her in panic.
“Chii! What’s happened? Did sensei do something that hurt you?” He glares sharply at Yamada. Yamada just gulps and freezes. This boy is scaring him.
Before Chinen can explain, Yukito has spoke.
“Yeah! This oji-san did something to Yuri-nee! He makes Yuri-nee cry!” He says in confident. Everyone has their eyebrows lifted after hearing it.
“What has he done, Yuki-chan?” Yuma asks.
“He was about to kiss Yuri-nee! Fortunately I stopped him!” Yukito explains. And the gasp can be heard everywhere, while Yamada and Chinen has their face redder than before.
“Is it true? What it means?” Saaya suddenly asks with her eyes still opened wide.
“Did he force you?” Yuma asks to Chinen.
And Chinen feels dizzy because the fuss keeps continuing. She has to explain what has happened before there are any misunderstanding there.
“Listen! Ryosuke didn’t do something bad to me!” She suddenly shouts, makes everyone stops blabbering. “He proposed me!” She continues with blushes crept again on her face. Yamada pretends to hum beside her, and rolls his eyes meanwhile he has all eyes set on him.
Saaya suddenly comes to Chinen and hugs her. “Omedetou, Yuriiiiii!!!!!” She cries in happiness knowing his sister is going to get married.
“You did it, sensei!” Yuma taps Yamada’s shoulders, and Yamada smiles to him while saying thanks. But then Yamada gestures Chinen to come with him. Chinen pulls away from the hug, and Yamada takes her hand. They walk to Mr. Chinen and Mrs. Nishii who’re still talking in the gazebo.
“Mr. Chinen and Mrs. Nishii…” Yamada starts nervously. Mr and Mrs. Chinen, also Mr and Mrs. Nishii stop their activities. “I know you haven’t known me that well, and I am much older than Yuri.” He holds Chinen’s hand tight to cover his nervous. “But I really love your daughter, and I want to marry her. So, please give your daughter to me.” Yamada catches a deep breath and bows. Chinen smiles.
“Onegai, mom, dad.” She bows while her hand still connecting with Yamada’s.
“Stand up first.” Mr. Chinen says. Yamada and Chinen straighten their backs. “How long have you been in a relationship?” Suddenly Mr. Chinen asks seriously to Yamada. Yamada and Chinen looks at each other and gulps. “I never heard that you are in relationship before, Yuri. All I heard is just you have met the orphan boy your grandpa told you before.” He continues. “You’re not a lover right? There’s no relationship between you two.” That stabs Yamada and Chinen perfectly. All of what Mr. Chinen has said is true after all.
Yamada holds Chinen’s hand tighter.
“How can you run your marriage life later if you even hasn’t been in a special relationship before? You have to take it step by step. You won’t be able to build a perfect family life that instant.” Mr. Chinen says coldly to Yamada and Chinen.
Chinen looks down. She is about to cry when hearing a groan from her father. She looks up again, and sees Mrs. Nishii whacks Mr. Chinen’s head.
“Enough. The joke is too far this time.” She says nonchalantly. Then she smiles and looks at the dumbfounded Chinen and Yamada. “Gomen ne. This baka brother of mine often does it. He also did the same when Saaya said that she was proposed. Don’t mind him, okay? And absolutely I’ll give my blessing to both of you.” Mrs. Nishii smiles widely to Yamada.
Mr. Chinen scratches his head. “Haha. Okay, I admit. It’s just a joke. Don’t worry, and gomen ne. I’m happy finally you have found the one that you love, Yuri. Be happy with him, okay.” Mr. Chinen smiles.
Yamada looks at Mr. Chinen. “Does it mean… that you’ve blessed me and Yuri?”
Mr. Chinen laughs. “Of course!”
Chinen immediately squeals and hugs her father and her mother. “Thanks, mom, dad. I love you.”
Mrs. Nishii caresses her. “You should say that to Yamada-kun, right?” She teases Chinen.
“I love you too, Yuri.” Mr. Chinen pats her head.
But suddenly the intimate of the family is disturbed by a little boy.
“It’s not true that you’re going to marry him right, Yuri-nee? I thought you’ll marry me.” Yukito blinks, and his eyes are teary. The family pulls away from the hug. Chinen caresses the boy’s head.
“I’ll marry him, my little brother. You know, there are many girls out there, and you can marry one of them later.” Chinen smiles. Yukito starts to sob.
“But…”
“Leave him to me, Yuri. Don’t mind him, okay? Have your time with Yamada-kun.” Mrs. Nishii cuts Yukito’s sentence and lifts him. She caresses his son’s back and smiling to Yamada.
Chinen nods, and encircles her arms in Yamada’s arm, and immediately walks away from there before Yukito cries louder. Yamada drags her to a quiet spot, far from the other who can’t wait to hear about the story of how Yamada proposed Chinen.
“I felt very nervous.” Yamada says while caressing his chest. Chinen giggles.
“It’s the first time I saw a popular writer being so nervous like this.”
“Haha. I haven’t been in love before. So I don’t know how to act properly in things like this.” Yamada smiles.
“I’m your first love? Even at your age?” Chinen has her eyes widen. Yamada laughs.
“Yes you are. Happy?”
Chinen nods. “Maybe you’re not my first love, but you’re the first man I love this much.” Chinen laughs.
“Another fact I know that I won’t be your first kiss.” Yamada snorts. Chinen giggles. Yamada still gets irritated about the scene before, where Yukito kissed her.
“But I’ll be your first kiss, deshou?” Chinen smiles.
“I have to make it true then.” Yamada leans in and catches Chinen’s lips before lets Chinen speaks anymore. It’s the first time he feels this kind of softness and warmness. And for Chinen, it’s also the first time she has the lips of the man she loves on her lips. Yamada takes an interval to say ‘I love you’ on Chinen’s lips before then giving her back the lovely sensation they have before.
My first love got my first kiss. Maybe I’ve take some random walks before then get the real essence of loving, and to be loved. There are still more I have to learn, I have to see, and I have to experience.
My relationship with Yuri maybe started could be seen in many ways. Starting with an uncle who lives happily after met a cheerful niece. Or maybe it’s about a fans who accidentally met her favorite writer at a bookshop. Or maybe it’s about a grandchild of a man who met the boy who was used to be visited in the orphanage by the man. But it also could be seen as a man who met a girl that is destined for him, right?
No matter what happened in the past, what will happen in the future, all I see is just now I’m walking with a girl named Chinen Yuri. I’ll spend the rest of my life with her, and giving her the best happiness ever.
I’m a writer. I’ve written many stories, and won some awards. I love a happy ending for the story I wrote. My life is quite different from the plot on my story. I didn’t instantly get the happy ending I wanted. Starting from nobody, someone has turned me into somebody. I’m not young anymore, but I still have young spirits inside. If people said it’s too late to have the first love in this age, I could proudly reply, that whatever you said, it’s still my story. My own life story. A writer’s story.
