Today was Belle's vet visit! She weighs 5 lbs, 14.5 oz!

First off, she's not 7 years old like the SPCA said. They guessed 7 because she looks old due to how beat up her skin is and the fact that she's not very active. The vet took a good look at her teeth when we asked him how old he thought she was and she apparently still has a few baby teeth so he guessed that she's between 2-3 years old. She also has extremely white front teeth which also led him to believe that she's about 2 or 3. She's got another 12 or 13 years of life in her! :)

Also, her skin condition isn't mange or a staph infection. He said it's possible that she scratched or cut herself and bacteria got into it and it's just spread throughout her body. Since we're not sure how she got it (because she had it when we got her) that it's more difficult to diagnose. I'm just happy it's not mange. We're to give her 2 pills of Amoxicillin a day for 10 days and 1/4 of a pill of Ketoconazole everyday for 20 days (a total of 5 pills) and if she doesn't show signs of improvement to take her back to the vet. Once her skin gets better, it's likely that she'll be more active and have more of an appetite. (She doesn't eat a lot, but at least she eats.)

She's basically pretty healthy with the exception of the skin and a little bit of plaque on her teeth. He told us how to brush her teeth (because her mouth is so small, we have to do it with our fingers) and to try and do it daily, but weekly is fine too.

So we went to the pet store to get her some food, doggy toothpaste, and some treats to hide her pills in. They have these awesome treats called pill pockets that smell awful but apparently taste delicious. They're super moist and soft so you can close them so the pill doesn't fall out. Belle loves them and gets excited when I even hold the bag. :)

So yay, my vet visit was great. I love the vet I go to so much. He reminds me of Bob Ross combined with Mister Rogers. :)
