Hunter is so adorable! My dog growing up, Tippie, was half Chihuahua and half terrier of some sort, and was the best dog ever.
The breeder of my chihuahuas always used baby toys for her puppies, and she sent her puppies home with their favorite toys (and baby blankets and all sorts of stuff). Beau came home with several little Winnie The Pooh characters that he really loved, and he was very tiny (he's 3 pounds full grown) and did fine with them. Once Brodie came home he became Beau's favorite toy :) Also look at cat and ferret toys - you have to be careful, some aren't good for puppies, but there some good useable things.
I don't use collars on my dogs - the go collar-less inside and when I take them out I use a harness...but when they are tiny even the x-small harnesses are too large. I found these great one-piece lead/harness things variously labeled for both rabbits and ferrets - totally adjustable, great for tiny puppies. A few months ago I found a different kind of one-piece harness/lead combo made for dogs that they kind of step into - they are adjustable too, but if Beau were any smaller it would be too big for him, so it wouldn't work for a tiny puppy.
My 2 boys eat the Royal Canin Chihuahua dry food and love it (as do the cats!), and since they do so well on it, I'm kind of reluctant to try much else.
Thanks so much for the compliments & advice. He really is the most wonderful, loving puppy. =)
I never thought of baby toys for him, but that's such a great idea. I'll definitely try going to Baby's R Us or Target over the weekend. To be honest, I didn't even think to look at cat or ferrett toys either- thanks for the suggestion!
Hunter seems to love Royal Canin as well- I probably won't change it, but just was looking to see if there is anything better out of curiosity. Only want the best for the little guy, lol. =)
