Hi, I'm not sure if I've posted here before... Anyway.
I currently own a King Charles Spaniel, and USED to own a chihuahua. The chihuahua was given back to the breeder as she was a complete nightmare, she was very inbred & the breeder knew it, as we never saw the parens & the woman didn't give us our money back. I would really like a long haired chihuahua though, once my spaniel is gone... we need a small/tiny dog, as someone in my family is ill and can't handle a giant dog bounding around. Plus it will technically be mine - so I want one I can carry, cuddle & have on my lap. I'm doing A LOT of research - I'm just worried that this time it'll end up like last time.
I was wondering what you guys went through in the run up to purchasing one? And when you thought you'd found the right one at a breeders... aside from seeing the parents and such, are there any specific clever tricks to know that this is the dog you want & won't remove a toe, and is there any way to tell if this dog really will be loyal to you and won't end up hating you or something?

Any help would be great. Thanks!

oh oh! Also... can they wear coats/jumpers and such in the house, too? Apart from the fact it'd keep them warm, I was wondering if that helps with shedding?
Alsooo, while on the subject - do nearly all chihuahuas like wearing jumpers, or do some dislike it... if so, is there any way to train them to wear them?
