adding another dog to the family

Sooo... I've had bitsee for over two years now (she'll be 3 in dec) and i'm just in love with her..she goes everywhere she can with me and is seriously the most well mannered dog i've ever known (she's never even bared her teeth, is very mellow etc..) I adopted her from someone who had too many dogs (like 7...long story) she was very timid and shy and needed more one on one attention then they could give her. Now she's very social and happy and very much the baby of the house. My boyfriends in love with her too. We also have 2 cats, one she is scared of (he's a big bully) but still gives kissies to when she can brave it, the other is very mellow and plays with her sometimes. I think she'd like to play with them more but is too scared... She also doesn't get to socialize with other dogs much.

Now her nephew needs a home, he is five months old and apparently just like her in his mannerisms. He looks like her too they say. My boyfriend and I are trying to help find a home for him, but then we keep thinking about taking him, but we're not sure. We know this would be a wonderful dog but aren't sure how this would be for bitsee. I think it might be good for the dogs and cats to have an even number, and good for her to kindof be an alpha dog and most importantly to have a companion... especially one that's a lot like her and her relative. I think she would really enjoy being around another dog but i'm not sure if she would be hurt because she's not the only one.
Please share with me any advise, personal experiences, and/or opinions you might have on the subject. I'd love to hear about people's experiences with bringing another dog into the house. My main concern is how this will effect Bitsee and our relationship with her
