I have been dreading this for months now, but now that it's officially going to happen, I need advice: We're moving to Singapore in the beginning of October. My bf got a major promotion and moved there. He wants me to go too. If I knew it was all going to happen, I wouldn't have gotten a dog. But I didn't and I did so now of course I WILL ABSOLUTELY NOT GIVE HIM UP.
So...I've got to put him through Singapore quarantine. It'll be a month long and it will be here:
http://www.pethotel.com.sg/quarantine.htm. It looks absolutely horrific to me, coming from Japan. They have outdoor and indoor option and even though the indoor option is 10 dollars more expensive a night, that's where he'll be. NO WAY am I leaving him outside. Pics of indoor kennels are here:
http://www.pethotel.com.sg/gallery_kennel.htm. Still looks absolutely horrific to me. But they call it a five star hotel for pets.
There's no way around it. It's mandatory. I tear up just thinking about it. To anyone who's worked with dog shelters and things, does it look really bad? I mean, it's a government so I'm assuming they can't leave the dogs in poor conditions otherwise it could be an international incident. The dogs look ok but they are all big! How's a teeny tiny chihuahua/yorkie gonna survive that?! :( And why do they have puppies for sale?!
I don't know what to do. It's not worth breaking up with my boyfriend over, is it? I mean, I almost would because Nano is that important to me. Will Nano be ok? I'll be able to visit him as much as I'd like. He'd have to survive it for a month, but after that he'll have so much more room. I'm a tiny studio at the moment and will be moving to a large 2 bedroom condo, with probably a yard and pool. And he'll be spoiled beyond belief, and since food will be cheaper, maybe I can even start to feed him raw.
ARGH! And then there's the plane. How will he be in the plane? Has anyone flown with a pet before? And is there maybe a sleeping pill or something I could give him? What to do, what to do!?! I've got two months to stress and prepare. Any advice, suggestions, encouragement, pity, etc is welcome.
And on a more positive note, here's what we're up to in Japan: Be matchy-matchy with your doggie!
