I just want to thank everyone who posted a few days ago about what to feed my dog, and especially the person who posted the question. I'd been wanting to ask, but felt dumb asking. I always thought Science Diet was a great food for dogs, and clearly I was misinformed! Well I bought Innova Evo today and did a 1:3 mix of new and old, and my dogs went CRAZY over it! They almost never finish what I give them (1/4 cup twice a day) and seem to just pick at it, even Rusty who was a little pig when I first got him. Well, today they devoured their food, and Evo bits were all picked out first. I'm REALLY excited about this new food, because Tori has always been difficult to feed--I tried going on a meal schedule, and I was afraid she was starving she was eating so little.
I also talked to my mom about what I learned here, and she switched her 3 month old black lab puppy to Innova, and he loves it too. This is especially good for him because he had "puppy strangles" (has?) where the immune system essentially attacks itself. He's been very sick for a long time--blisters in the eyes, ears, and on the bottom, and small for his age. He is still healing after undergoing a long bout of steroid and antibiotics shots to treat it, and he's currently being weaned off of them. He never liked the Science Diet that much either, and she's very happy to be giving him food that will help and speed his healing process.
I just want to give credit to everyone here for helping to enlighten me (and my mother!) and helping us to have the best pets we possibly can. Thank you all soooo much.
Also, Rusty and Tori are doing *very* well at housebreaking, going to the back door when they need to go out. There have been very few accidents. We are also having a trainer come by the house next Tuesday to work on Rusty's issues with barking and dog aggression. Very exciting!
And to sweeten the deal, here are some pictures of the little guy who is benefitting most:
