In the past two classes we discussed two ideas. One describing the media with the commons from the time of serfdom and the other on the ideas from a man called Jenkins.
In the beginning of both these classes I was very perplex about the topic that we were discussing. I have read the material the night before, but was still unable to comprehend much of the information given. When I got to class we started talking about the commons and relating to mass media. This was the basic idea that it was not the person with the most education that is listened to, but the person that proves the strongest points win. This analogy of the commons was given so that we may understand from a situation that everyone is familiar with. Sometimes it is easier to understand our time when we look into the past to figure what happened in the past events.
During today’s class we discussed about this textual poacher that seems to be so real in our world of media and blogging. Sometimes it might seem like we’re taking away from the media when we reenact certain things that we see on the screen, but sometimes it’s not that we’re taking away from the media, but adding even more to it. There is also a very fine line between analytical discussion and textual poaching because when people discuss they may be “stealing” from what the media has created in order to explain ones point.
