because i've been remiss in posting about our travels lately...
gains:
• 4 shattering live experiences (though some shattered more than others): shudder (kyle bruckmann, lance grabmiller, phillip greenlief) @ the luggage store gallery; thomas brinkmann @ recombinant media labs; nurse with wound + guests @ great american music hall; and pink mountain / citay @ bottom of the hill (sadly, we had to miss zu...)
• quality time with our fab friends kyle, ev, and connor
• 400+ digital photos (selections of which will be coming to my flickr very soon...)
• 1 stephen stapleton [nurse with wound] sighting, in aquarius records
• 6 compact disc releases bought new by me: the finnish maan matoset comp; four more raga moods by ashtray navigations on ikuisuus; andrew liles' wonderful nursery rhyme-themed release; the famous taj mahal travellers august 1974 (i.e., the purple one)--finally!; ariel kalma reissue (gorgeous!); and a very lovely ramses iii cd-r on barl fire
• 2 compact disc releases bought used for me by hk: pestrepeller (on important) + damenbart (fake krautrock on psychedelic pig)
• 2 long-playing records: two new vinyl-only releases by finnish artists on qbico--lauhkeat lampaat (with special guest lau nau) & rakhim (circle side project), bought directly from andee at aquarius just minutes after ups had delivered them to the shop (i overheard "limited new circle release" and jumped)
• 5 7" records: 2 delicious-looking vintage japanese ones (1 easy listening, 1 children's record) + 2 secondhand early 90s experimental/improv ones + a secondhand copy of the vitamin b12 7" on raft
• 3 printed t-shirts: 1 scurvy-themed, from the mcsweeney's pirate store + 1 jeanna sohn panda design (made by poketo) from giant robot + 1 "czech please" shirt that this czech-surnamed girl couldn't resist (from the paul frank store)
• 2 non-printed t-shirts/tops from loehmann's (i had a coupon)
• 1 pair of jeans from the very lovely doe boutique in the lower haight
• 4 toys: 1 "mystery chase" series 10 be@rbrick that'd probably be worth something if i really bothered to deal with such things, 1 dreamsheep i already had, 1 munny zipper pull, and 1 very weird-looking sh*t fighter ciboy)
• much needed time away from houston and the heat from hades
losses:
• my atm card
• a pound or so, thanks to all the hill-walking
• a golden opportunity to meet up with [musician and former houstonite] tom carter in the east bay (dang!)
• a big ol' chunk of dough
net gain, though, i'd say.

ADDENDUM!
i forgot to mention that i also got a very stylish, yet understated queen bee bag at the mostly-paper-goods branch of the very loveable vegan boutique, otsu. i really blew through my birthday money, that's for sure. and last, but most definitely not least,
gund_kata and i acquired several small new instruments at the formidable lark in the morning shop, including a swedish-made pentatonic glockenspiel, a new brass singing bowl, a vietnamese jawharp, an american jawharp, a skull-shaped shaker, and a noisy little toy that you blow into. we also tried out (& became rather quiet enamored with) a relatively inexpensive, romanian-made, flatback bouzouki. maybe someday...
