I've never had a real tree before. In fact, for many years... I didn't think you could really get them! Well, at least I didn't think it was normal for people to actually CUT DOWN a tree and put it in their living room. I thought everyone just did what we did, which was to haul up the artificial tree from the basement, assemble its 3 parts, etc etc.
So... this isn't one of those stories where I finally got my first real tree. Come on, this is Hong Kong! But this year I decided to make a little one for fun :) I got all Martha Stewarty -- there's not much to do in the mornings when you're getting over jetlag. Yesterday I went to the flower market with
Liz and I picked up some evergreen branches and other flower clippings.
I started with oasis blocks, which are these spongey water-retaining blocks for centerpieces and what not, and trimmed them down to size.
Then I clipped bits of the evergreen and started slipping them in around the base
I actually almost ran out cause I went on overkill with the base... you can see it is a little on the fluffy side.
It's a minitree!
I added some berry-twigs as well...
... along with these gorgeous red flowers that I love but have no idea what they're called. They're kind of prickly like thistles.
There's no angel or star that would fit on top, but there's a crown of thorns.
I think I love Christmas.
