Sea Monkey and Ska

The Buzz had their Second Chance Prom this past weekend. I went alone because 2012ad's ID-less at the moment and it's a 21-and-over show.

The Zeroes put on a great show, as always, playing for two solid hours. If you're not familiar with them (and they're a Kansas City band, so I don't expect most of you are), imagine Me First and the Gimme Gimmes playing nothing but eighties music. It's fantastic. They played a few songs I hadn't heard them play before, including the Jesus and Mary Chain's Head On.

The second band, Iglu & Hartley, I'm not familiar with. They appear to be a rap/dirty hipster group. The singers look like Bret Michaels (of Motley Crue) and the bastard love child of Richard Simmons and some scene kid. Their performance was decent enough.

The highlight of the evening was, without a doubt, the English Beat. I'm a sucker for ska and the Beat was the main reason I didn't want to miss this show.

I haven't skanked in almost two years, since the last time I saw Reel Big Fish, but I think I managed to pull it off.

In the middle of Save It For Later, they slipped into a cover of Pearl Jam's Better Man. And it worked. They closed with Mirror in the Bathroom, one of my favorite ska songs and I skanked my heart out.

I even made new friends. That's right, Greggy was social. Scary, huh?

In other news, over at NerderyBlog[dot]Com, I've announced my Latest Crazy Idea. The short version is this: I'm looking to create and run a digital publishing company, similar to Zuda, but without the whole competition thing.

shameless self-promotion, nerdery, sea monkey productions, everybody ska!, second chance prom
