They abandoned the rush because it was pointless. We have no Tony Richardson anymore. We have no Willie Roaf, John Tait, Tim Grunhard or any other of the fine, fine offensive linemen that we've been spoiled with in the past.
I beg to differ with you on the statement about the efficacy of the passing game.
The only time our drives died was when they tried a couple of running plays after we'd get a first down. LJ'd get hit for a loss or just take it to the line of scrimmage and 1-2-3...PUNT!
Huard was 19/40 for about 200 yards...not great numbers, but if I recall correctly, there were no turnovers. It seemed like he was hittin' Tony G & Bowe all day long, and yet we STILL insisted of screwing up the drive with a hand-off to LJ.
LJ is a great back, everyone knows that. The problem is...I don't care WHO you are, if you have no blocking, you CAN'T run. You might rattle off a couple here and there, but if no blocking is there to open up the lanes and give you some wiggle room, you're stuck.
Here's to hoping they figure out a way to make LJ shine again.
