~.~.~.~.
Kyuhyun woke up in the middle of the night from a dreadful dream: he was dying, and a miserable kind of death. Sweat trickled down his face as he panted and he hears gunshots from outside his window sill. It was not a perfect time to live as the world was in a chaotic phase. Kyuhyun pulled the blanket to cover most of his face, leaving his eyes uncovered to see the shadows creeping from the gaps of the curtains.

"Kyuhyun?"

A soft voice was heard and Kyuhyun turned his head to the direction of the voice, it was his best friend Zhou Mi.

"Kyu, have you been having nightmares? I heard you scream."

Kyuhyun saw concern in Zhou Mi’s eyes and so he forced himself to smile.

"they are back.. they’ll get me.."

Kyuhyun muttered as Zhou Mi sat on his bed, Kyuhyun instantly cuddled unto him, Zhou Mi hugged the younger and she hummed a lullaby.

"I’m here, they won’t get you."

Kyuhyun closed his eyes as he listened to the soothing voice of his beloved friend. His breaths were heavy and his hands quivered, Zhou Mi can feel his anxiety, and so she hugged the younger tighter as the sounds of gunshots and screams rattled outside the window.

"they’re coming.."

Kyuhyun muttered under his breath as he sensed the aura closing in on the door.

"I’m here… don’t be scared"

But that was what Kyuhyun was afraid of, Zhou Mi being there, because he knew what they can do and his dreams are not just dreams, they were apparitions. With a loud bang, the door burst into tiny pieces, Zhou Mi covered the young man under her as she took the splinters.

"We’ll take him"

The man in dark suit muttered but Zhou Mi did not let go, she held him tighter. Kyuhyun opened his eyes and saw the shadows moved behind Zhou Mi, his eyes widened as he saw a hand with a wand point at Zhou Mi’s temple. Blinding lights filled the room and when Kyuhyun opened his eyes once more, Zhou Mi’s body was silent and still, she was dead.

"You didn’t have to kill her!"

Kyuhyun shouted but the man turned his back from him and walked towards the door.

"She’s stopping you from fulfilling your destiny.."

He plainly said and Kyuhyun fell on his knees and cried.

"You know she’ll eventually die someday.. unlike us.. she’s mortal"

The man said but Kyuhyun still cried. This was the worst kind of death that he could receive: living a life without his true love.

As the man walked out of the room, Kyuhyun removed his necklace and placed in Zhou Mi’s neck, he gave her a sweet last kiss on the lips and muttered.

"in time, you’ll remember.. in time our paths will intertwine.. in time you’ll be mine"

~.~.~.~.

Kyuhyun counted the years that passed and after a centennial, there he found her once again. Eyes wide and glimmering with light, smile gentle and sweet, and a voice full of endearment. He watches from afar like a predator watching his prey: his eyes focused on her like she’ll disappear in a second. And then she was gone and far from his sight. Kyuhyun was restless that night as he finally saw her again but he was afraid of the consequences. He carefully watched her from a safe distance and he smiles to himself seeing her once again with a precious smile, the smile he fell in love with a hundred years ago.

By this time, Kyuhyun had learned enough tricks and come into ranks of the masters, being just a hundred or so years old. This was a remarkable feat for it takes more than 5 centennial to reach that level for a normal wizard. But Kyuhyun was the genius, in the wizard world; he was like the ‘Harry Potter’, an innate leader and powerful wizard. That’s why he was separated from Zhou Mi in the first place, the master wizards saw that she was hindering Kyuhyun from attaining his full potential. They were apparently correct, since Kyuhyun would denounce the wizard blood in him to be with Zhou Mi, his one true love.

And so he took his usual habit of stalking but he wouldn’t admit that he was stalking, he was merely observing in a safe distance. He smiled to himself as he watched the girl walk past the wooden fence and out on the cobbled path towards the market where she’ll buy today’s produce. His eyes were hazel and they were focused on the tall girl. He smiled contently as Zhou Mi reached the curb and he turned to walk back to his hiding place in the middle of the forest. But as he took a step, he heard Zhou Mi scream, this was not what he wanted but he had to reveal himself to the girl.

Kyuhyun reached the place and he saw a drunk man dragging Zhou Mi towards the woods, probably to rape her or rob her whatever his intention was, it wasn’t a good one. So Kyuhyun caught the man and gave him a couple of blows. The man fell to the ground and Kyuhyun did what his instincts told him, run away to safety. He grabbed Zhou Mi by the hand and they both ran towards the forest.

Assuring that they were safe and sound, Kyuhyuk let go and took a few steps away from the girl, she was in a daze but she thanked the young lad who saved her.

"Sir, I thank you for your kindness.."

She spoke in a voice which made Kyuhyun shiver in the cold October wind.

"Don’t mention it. It’s rather unsafe for beautiful lass like you to wander around town unattended."

Kyuhyun muttered without looking at the girl.

"I haven’t seen you in town before, nor have heard of your name. Sir, is it possible that you are a traveler passing by, or a mountain dweller, but with your clothes.."

Zhou Mi asked and Kyuhyun shouted back.

"My identity is of no importance!"

Zhou Mi was taken aback.

"My apologies sir. But I do sincerely thank you for saving me earlier. Now if you would excuse me, I must go back. My family must be worried already."

She bowed low and went her way when Kyuhyun spoke.

"We’ve met a hundred years ago.. You must at least recognize my face or remember my name."

Zhou Mi turned to face Kyuhyun with a worried expression.

"You are absurd! How can we meet a hundred years ago? You must have lost your mind. I must really be going"

Zhou Mi muttered and started running.

"It’s Kyuhyun."

Kyuhyun softly muttered as tears fall down his face. He must have gotten everything wrong, she may look like Zhou Mi but she is not her, she does not remember, she does not believe.. she is not Zhou Mi, the girl he loved, loves and will love.

The days that followed were like the ones that preceded it, he stalked while she walked. It was a pretty much boring type of story where Kyuhyun patiently waits behind the shadow of leaves, bushes and trees while Zhou Mi walks down the cobbled path with a smile.

But that soon changed on the eve of Zhou Mi’s 21’st birthday, the young lass was deep in slumber when in her sleep a mysterious face appeared. She twisted and turned as sweat covered her body. The face looked familiar and she was chasing him in an endless road lined with glowing orbs. There his face was crystal clear, she knew him, he was familiar.

"Kyuhyun"

She screamed as she woke up, panting and sweating. It was already past midnight and she looked around the room and saw the familiar face, Kyuhyun.

"Kyuhyun?!"

She muttered as she stares at the man in front of her, his face indifferent. She was catching her breath as she continued asking him who he was.

"Sir, are you Kyuhyun?"

He shifted his weight and moved his lips, a deep husky voice filled the room.

"You finally remembered who I am. Say my name once more"

Mi was surprised but she couldn’t explain herself when all she could mutter was his name. Over and over she muttered his name like it’s the only word she knew and could speak. Tears run down her eyes and in heat of the moment, their lips met, a chaste kiss and she closed her eyes, their meeting has been fulfilled after a hundred years of waiting. Memories of a hundred years flooded her. When they parted, she knew what to do with the man in front of her, love him.

Bright light filled the room as Kyuhyun raised one hand and a ball of fire appeared before them, and surrounded both of them. Her eyes widened but smiled not the less, she knew him by heart not to know the truth about his identity.

"Did you…"

Mi asked and Kyuhyun nodded.

"I’m different.."

Kyuhyun muttered but Zhou Mi just smiled before answering him.

"I know…"

She walked toward Kyuhyun and placed her hand around his neck, gave him a kiss on the cheek and smiled. The ring of fire grew and consumed their surroundings. Zhou Mi’s eyes widened as the she witnessed true magic.

"You’ve gone a long way Kyu.."

Mi muttered but Kyuhyun gave her a smirk.

"you are talking to a ‘Merlin Level’ wizard."

Kyuhyun muttered as the ring of fire ceased and they were on a mountain ridge, over viewing the city lights not far from the country side where she lived.

"Merlin level?"

Zhou Mi curiously asked as they walked towards the fallen log to sit.

"you could say, I was the top of my class.."

Kyuhyun replied and Zhou Mi smiled. Kyuhyun pointed his finger on the bunch of twigs and it ignited to make fire for them.

"I thought Harry uses wands"

Mi asked and Kyuhyun laughed.

"Harry uses wand but Nicholas Cage didn’t"

Zhou mi’s brows furrowed and Kyuhyun answered her questioning looks.

"The sorcerer’s apprentice"

"oh.. that movie.. no wonder I watched that.. I was gravitated towards wizards.. I never knew I fell in love with one in my past life."

Hey were laughing and updating each other on what happened to their respective lives when a strong wind blew and the fire went dead. Darkness.

"Mi.. hold my hand and don’t let go."

Kyuhyun muttered as he gripped Mi’s hands tightly, Zhou Mi nodded.

"Show yourself!"

Kyuhyun shouted and dark figures emerged from the shadows of the trees. Zhou Mi panicked.

"Are they dementors?"

Zhou Mi asked and Kyuhyun burst out laughing before turning serious again.

"Nope. They are the elders."

Zhou Mi’s eyes went wide as one by one the dark figures took shape and faces appeared. 3 young faces.

"Elders?"

Zhou Mi asked completely surprised with what Kyuhyun was referring to.

"They are at least 100 years older than me~"

Kyuhyun explained and Zhou Mi finally understood. Her eyes then widened as she recognized one of them, the one who killed her.

"You…."

"I know.. I killed you so what?!"

The man who looks like a girl commented.

"Sungmin Hyung.. how could you say that so easily."

Another man asked, he had prominent cheekbones and a faint smile. He then went to Kyuhyun and Zhou Mi and extended a hand.

"Hi I’m Ryeowook, and I’m just 50 years older than Kyu. I don’t bite and I’m already married.. unfortunately.. I have a husband not a wife."

At his introduction Zhou Mi nervously shook his hand while another man coughed behind him.

"I’m Henry.. Wookie’s husband.. never mind what he said. Anyway.. Kyu-hyung.. you know the rules right.. You need to face the court. What you did wasn’t the wisest move. A couple of hundred people are gathering outside Mi’s house as they suspected her for being a witch. They claimed they saw balls of fire inside her room. Now we need to decided whether to.. you know.. extinguish."

Henry muttered and this made Zhou Mi move a step back.

"Stop lying Henry!"

Kyuhyun shouted.

"Fine You got me.. it’s about Mi Noona .. This is for your safety"

Henry said with a smile, pertaining to Zhou mi and with a blink of the eye, Zhou Mi was in the middle of the ‘court’ facing 13 ‘elders’. Kyuhyun was beside her and holding her hand tightly.

"You’ve been a very stubborn kid Kyuhyun.. You make me want to kill her once more!"

The prettiest among the 13 spoke.

"You can’t touch her this time Heechul"

Kyuhyun shouted.

"Where’s your manners Kyuhyun? Isn’t a hyung too much for you to say?"

One asked.

"I lost my respect when you killed Mi a hundred years ago!"

Kyuhyun muttered and this made Zhou Mi cry.

"Kyuhyun.. let go.. just let go.. I don’t want to see you get in trouble."

Zhou mi muttered.

"shut up.. you don’t know what you are saying… I can’t live without you.. immortality is a curse without you."

Kyuhyun said while hugging her tightly.

"This is way too cheesy!"

Heechul remarked but Leeteuk and Eunhyuk were tearing up.

"You both are a disgrace to this court! How could you be cry babies?"

Heechul asked but the two still sobbed quietly.

"Enough talk, let’s get this done."

The man in all black, with eagle eyes and evil stare stood then raised a hand, thunder was heard and bolts of lightning filled the room and were all directed to Zhou Mi. She covered her eyes as Kyuhyun mightily tried to block every attack.

"This looks fun!"

One of them stood up and started blasting water out of nowhere. Zhou Mi closed her eyes and tightly held on Kyuhyun.

"Yesung hyung! Donghae hyung! Stop it both of you!"

Ryeowook screamed but this only made Heechul and the rest stood and attacked Kyuhyun and Zhou mi.

"Henry.. Help me stop them!"

Ryeowook shouted and they both aided the weakened Kyuhyun. As the three countered to protect the girl, Zhou Mi heard a very evil laugh.

"Why would you help this mortal?"

Heechul asked and Ryeowook firmly answered.

"I saw her future.. she is the key!"

The rumbling sounds and blinding lights ceased as each one of them froze with Ryeowook’s words. “She is the key.”

"are you sure?"

Yesung asked them. Silence.

"Wookie! Are you damn sure?"

Yesung repeated his question and Ryeowook firmly answered.

"Yes. She is the key. I wasn’t sure the first time I met her but now I am. She is the key."

What key they are talking about? Zhou mi’s brain was filled with questions but she knew knowing the answers have grave consequences.

"only one way to find out!"

Siwon muttered with a smirk and raised a hand, Zhou Mi was lifted up in the air, surprised and she was not able to move a muscle. She floated 30 feet up in the air and without support, not even a spider’s thread. Then with one swift move, Siwon made her fall. Kyuhyun tried to save her but Leeteuk muttered a curse to bind him. She was falling, Zhou Mi’s heart pounded hard as she feels that she would die yet again she clutched the necklace Kyuhyun gave her a hundred years ago and muttered a soft Kyuhyun I love you. She braced herself for the pain as she hit the stone floor but she felt nothing.. She opened her eyes and bright light surrounded her, she was floating a few inches from the floor, she managed to stand, safe and unscathed.

All eyes were focused on her, amazed and at awe. How could a mortal do such a miraculous feat?

"I told you she was the key!"

Ryeowook muttered and Zhou Mi had the courage to speak.

"What key? What is my role? Why would you want to kill me?"

Kyuhyun walked to her and took her into his arms; He placed a soft kiss on her lips. He touched the necklace on her neck and smiled.

"They knew I was the chosen one, the prophecy’s golden child. They knew they have to keep me. I was the one who would be this clan’s eternal leader. But they never knew who would be the key, the key to unlocking the power hidden within me"

Kyuhyun said as he took her by the hand and presented her to the elders once more.

"What will you do now?"

Kyuhyun asked and all the elders sat before Leeteuk spoke.

"we have to proceed with the ceremony.. she’ll have to endure it"

"When?"

Kyuhyun asked.

"Now"

Leeteuk answered. With that said, Ryeowook dragged Zhou mi into a room and pulled out a gown from a dresser. He handed it to her with a smile.

"This was Kyuhyun’s mom. She wore it during the ceremony with Kyu’s dad. Don’t worry. After this, it’ll be smooth sailing for the two of you!"

Ryeowook left her to change. Zhou Mi held the gown in her hands and worriedly looked at herself in the mirror. What ceremony? What key? She thought to herself when a knock was heard, it was Sungmin.

"I’m sorry I killed you a hundred years ago! I was just following orders."

He muttered.

"it’s no big deal"

Zhou Mi answered.

"don’t be nervous. This ceremony is just like a wedding in your terms. Basically you just have to create a vow that will lock your destiny. Kyuhyun is the 3rd generation eternal wizard and to completely fulfill his duty, he must find the ‘key’."

Sungmin explained.

"What key?"

Zhou mi asked.

"A ‘key’ is a person who will unlock the eternal wizard’s capability. What is a prince without his princess, a knight without his lady? A wizard without his key is similar. We just call her the key, but to put it simply, she is just the wife."

"How do you know who is the key?"

Zhou Mi continued to ask.

"his eminence, the prophet, would be given a name or a face of the chosen one as well as the key."

"Ryeowook?"

Sungmin nodded.

"but if Wizards are immortal, then would that mean that the eternal wizard would reign a lifetime?"

Zhou Mi continued to ask.

"well you see.. we do say we have immortality but we do have limits. At a certain point in a wizards’ life, the source of power drains and he eventually dies, the soul would find another host and he will be a wizard. Anyway, your case was unusual, when Kyuhyun was prophesized as the eternal wizard, there was no doubt about it, and his dad was one before he perished in a fight. But you as a mortal being the key was a mystery. For all the generations of eternal wizards, all of their keys were also wizards. You were the only mortal."

Too much information made her headache and so Sungmin smiled and left her.

"You will do great just take this as your wedding!"

Sungmin closed the door as Zhou mi changed into the gown. She was beautiful as a glowing bride, her eyes bright and her smiled wide while pink blush covered her cheeks.

"You look wonderful don’t worry!"

Henry muttered as he winked at Zhou Mi when he led her towards the court, it changed from a dark medieval justice hall to a bright and flower filled hall in just a few hours, this must be magic.
But how do wizards and witches get married? Not your typical church or garden wedding, that’s for sure. And Zhou mi sure found out how it works.

Kyuhyun stood at the middle of the hall, clad in black, eyes closed and still. Zhou Mi feared as she took a step closer and stopped to face the 13 elders in front of her. She was quiet and she was confused, was this ceremony supposed to be their wedding? Silence filled the room as each of the elders raised their hands and a rainbow of colored lights shoot out and straight to Kyuhyun. Zhou mi wanted to scream and ask what were they doing, are they killing Kyuhyun? The young lad stood in the middle as the colored lights surrounded him.

"Zhou Mi, your necklace, open it!"

Ryeowook muttered with a smile as all the elders lowered their hands. Zhou mi took the necklace and stared at it for a while. How does she open a think that doesn’t look like it can be opened at all! She panicked even more as Heechul screamed at her.

"She is useless! Are you sure that she is the key Ryeowook!"

But then bright light filled the room as Zhou mi manages to open the pendant of her necklace. The light blended with the colored lights from the elders and formed a big ray of light above them. Then the ray of light charged straight into Kyuhyun’s heart which made Zhou Mi scream loud.

The light faded and when Zhou Mi opened her eyes, Kyuhyun was levitating. He extended a hand which Zhou mi took, and she too was levitating. He smiled brightly which made Zhou mi blush and smiled widely as well before their lips met and kissed passionately. Another blinding purple light filled the room as the two finally set foot on the ground. They faced the elders once more and they both saw smiles. The eldest of them made an announcement.

"All hail the eternal wizard, show respect for our leader!"

Leeteuk mightily announced, and all responded with glee.

"All hail the eternal Wizard! All hail Kyuhyun!"

Both Kyuhyun and Zhou Mi exchanged smiles and he gave her another kiss. They were now one and with a raise of his hand, the whole room bowed before the eternal wizard. In the end, he fulfilled his duty as the most powerful wizard on the land, and she was the key to make him into one.

"Now, what would you do if I grew old and my face filled with wrinkles?"

Zhou Mi asked as she sat on their bed.

"You won’t have wrinkles.. you’re now my wife. And as the key, you are most likely the second most powerful wizard in this land…Me being the first of course. "

Zhou Mi laughed before giving her husband a kiss.

one-shot, qmi
