Ryeowook stood up with difficulty and walked to her room and grabbed the suitcases. She then takes every piece of clothing she and Mimi had and placed them inside the suitcases. She was crying, blaming herself for believing in false hope.. She was foolish indeed. When she opened one of the drawers, she saw the neatly folded handkerchief Yesung had given her when she cried back then: The only remembrance of her knight in shining armor, her protector, her prince. Tears, more tears flowed and her heart ached so much no amount of tears can erase the feeling: this is heart ache. She cried even more.. Drowning herself in tears like she had done for the past 5 years.. Yet this is different.. She was no longer holding on to a string of hope.. She is now letting go.. The pain consumes her.. It was too much.. if I were there, I would have hold her fragile body and bid her to stop, but I wasn’t there so Ryeowook cried until her heart stopped beating.. At least it stopped beating for Jongwoon. With unsteady body, she walks to her daughter and kissed her sweetly on the forehead.

“ Mimi ah.. It’s time to go..”

Mimi smiled at her mom who didn’t seem to notice the lifeless form of her mother. They both took a coat and off they went to leave everything behind, even the cup of coffee that neatly rested on the center table. And they were gone.

If you are thinking, what have you done.. Why are you breaking up YEWOOK? I thought they were ok..

Well the truth is.. I have to break them apart somehow, what is a story without angst? These strong emotions keep us going, moving forward and I would want to emphasize that, it’s not always smooth sailing, there are turbulence and storms that we need to overcome to become stronger as life progresses.

Jongwoon enters the apartment to see nothing but the cup of coffee right where he left it. Pabo Jongwoon, you lost your family! And he knows what he has to do but couldn’t bring himself to do so.. He stood there, staring blankly at the coffee cup. He then grabbed the cup took a sip of the coffee. The cold March air did not cool the coffee that much, it was still warm. Finally Jongwoon smiles and runs out of the door, into his car and drove to where his heart was leading him, to his family.

And maybe you are thinking, what is so special about that coffee? Well it’s love. Ryeowook jumped into conclusion thinking that Jongwoon hated the coffee well in fact Jongwoon was just thinking.. The coffee he drank when he returned to Korea, and this cup Ryeowook prepared.. it’s the same.. Not exactly the same ingredients.. It was Love and even though it was 5 years ago when he tasted something like it, he still recalls how powerful that love is.

Ryeowook looks at her watch nervously and It’s now 2:20 am, the latest bus would be at around 2:45 am and the next bus would be around 5 am. Mimi was fast asleep on the bench as it is still her bed time. Ryeowook pulls the coat closer to her body as she gives Mimi a kiss on the forehead. Time must be passing very slowly as each second tortures Ryeowook. Each minute burns her skin with intense cold, and it’s not the cold March wind, but due to the emptiness she is feeling right now; Dark and cold, what a perfect way to describe the scene and Ryeowook’s feelings.

She sat there waiting and her mind forces her heart to stop beating for someone, but then again the heart has a mind of its own, we cannot tell it to stop.. it stops at its own will.. That is our heart, unbelievable strong, unbelievably stubborn.

As the 2:45am bus parked in front of the station and doors opened to receive a few passengers waiting, Ryeowook was thinking whether to get on or not. The door was inviting her to go in and leave every painful memory behind. She finally stood up and grabbed the suitcases, it was really heavy.. it’s as if the suitcases didn’t want to be moved. Ryeowook sighs and started to cry. She looks so pitiful and helpless.

“Ryeowook.. “

Ryeowook blinks fast as she thinks she heard her name being called. She shook her head and took the suitcase.

“Ryeowook..”

It was now louder and she is sure she heard her name being called and the voice was utterly familiar.

“Ryeowook..”

Finally it was visible, a tall young man was running towards her, it was jongwoon.

“Jongwoon?”

Ryeowook mutters, unsure on what to do.. Will she board the bus and leave everything behind, or face him again, full of uncertainty for the future that lies before them.

Jongwoon pants and sweat trickles down his face, breathing heavily at the distance he ran for he was stupid enough not to refuel his car before driving such distance. And yes it’s a cliché, same old dramatic scene where they will kiss and make up and everything will be alright, right?

Maybe..

“umma.. appa…”

Mimi stood from her sleeping place and tugged at the hems of her parents clothes. The two stood there staring at each other, gaze unending, unwavering, expecting. And as each second passed, they still stood their ground, no one wanted to break the silence, like they were frozen in time and everything around them doesn’t matter. Mimi sighs and walked in front of the door and bowed to the driver.

“I’m sorry to keep ypu waiting, I guess we will not ride the bus tonight.. I’m very sorry.”

The bus driver smiled at the young girl and saluted.

“wishing you the best my dear…”

The doors were closed and with a honk, the bus drove away to its destination. Mimi waves goodbye at the speeding bus and finally Ryeowook turns to realize that the bus had already left them.

“Mimi…”

She searches for her daughter and saw her waving at the bus. Mimi then turned to her mom and smiled, Ryeowook sighs.

“I missed you so much..”

Ryeowook was surprised when she felt Jongwoon’s arma around her waist, sof voice whispering in her ears and a soft kiss on her head. She was starting to cry as she turns to face Jongwoon and embraces him and never letting go..

Cheesy.. yeah I know but wouldn’t you want a happy ending?

Ryeowook cries as she tries to speak.. to tell him every word..

“pabo..”

Jongwoon runs his free hand down her soft brown hair and hums as Ryeowook mutters endless words of pain and endearment.

“how could you do this to me.. You liar… your ego.. pabo!!”

Ryeowook continues to release all the pain in her heart, her tears soaking the expensive shirt Jongwoon was wearing but who cares? Cry as much as you want.. let every pain n your heat melt into the March wind and forget the past, move to the future, enjoy the present.

And with closed eyes, and a voice from deep inside his heart, jongwoon, nope not him, Yesung finally sings the song that tells it all..

nae meongdeun gaseumi
neol chajaorago
sorichyeo bureunda
neon eodinneungeoni
naui moksori deulliji annni
naegeneun

Yesung tries his best to sing through tears and hiccups, he has to sing.. he has to get Ryeowook back.. And Mimi sang for him.. a surprise for both..

na dasi sarado
myeot beoneul taeeonado
harudo niga eobsi sal su eomneun na
naega jikyeojul saram
naega saranghal saram nan
geurae nan neo hanamyeon chungbunhanikka
neo hanaman saranghanikka

Mimi was crying too, but it was tears of joy.. Yesung looked at Ryeowook who shrugged her shoulders and shook her head, no one taught Mimi that song but the five year old knew the lyrics and sang it with pure passion. It has to be something unexplainable… A miracle?

It’s rather simple, she is their daughter and that song has been etched in her heart, she bears the blood of her father, and the song runs through her veins and rings in her ears.. it’s part of her, just as it was part of Ryeowook and Yesung.

“Mimi..”

Ryeowook mutters and YEsung finally smiled, a genuine smile I must say, and leans towards Ryeowook for a kiss. Yesung pulled her closer and Ryeowook responded back with longing. It was cold but their bodies so close to each other, lips locked in the sweetest kiss, nothing mattered anymore..

Maybe not..

Mimi sheepishly smiled and went in the middle of her parents and pushed both apart, Ryeowook and Yesung was both shocked and surprise. Mimi then gestured for his father to lean in closer.

“your promise appa..”

Yesung smiled and patted the daughter on her head then asked her to hop on and he wil give her a piggy back ride home.

“umma.. let’s go!!”

Mimi motioned for her mother to hurry and join them in walking back to their apartment. Ryeowook smiled through her tears and grabbed the suitcases, she stack one on the other and pulled it along. Yesung extended a hand which Ryeowook gladly took and the three walked away to finally have a happy ending.

“Wookie-ah..”

It’s been so long since she heard her name that lovingly spoken and Ryeowook gazes up to see Yesung looking at the road they are walking.

“I’m sorry..”

“it doesn’t matter anymore.. I love you…”

Yesung smiled widely and leaned to kiss her one more time, Ryeowook blushes.

“you make the best cup of coffee..”

“really?”

“will you prepare it for me every day?”

Ryeowook sheepishly smiled at him.

“I’m not your maid, go ask them to make your coffee..”

“what?”

“If you marry me, then I’ll reconsider.”

Ryeowook looks away and Yesung ‘s smile grew wider.

“you’re proposing?”

“no!!! what makes you think that?”

Yesung pulled her closer and kissed her on the forehead.

“I love you so much..”
