Part 7 - You can lean on me
Yesung bitterly drank the coffee as he tries to think clearly, is this like a walk to remember? Is Ryeowook going to die? Will he be forced to do what his father wanted all along? Thoughts rush through his brain and he was getting a pretty bad headache. This is unbearable. Why? what? How? When? Where?
The sky went dark and the ahjumma brought Yesung back to life. She pointed at the dark clouds building and he understood. He smiled and paid the bill and went his way. He then drove back to Incheon as the rain heavily pours. He drove carefully, not wanting to have accident or anything. He was near his apartment when he passed by the usual park and noticed someone sitting on the bench then suddenly falling down, hitting her head on the ground.
Yesung stopped to help the poor girl and he was surprised when he saw that it was Ryeowook. He panicked as he checked her pulse. she can’t die he said to himself. He carried her gently back to the car and drove to the Incheon Hospital, he didn’t care if the leather seat would get ruined by the rain, all he thinks about now is saving Ryeowook’s life.. she can’t die now… she just can’t
Ryeowook was admitted to the emergency room and was checked by the doctors. After what seemed like forever, Ryeowook’s Physician accompanied her to meet her savior. Yesung couldn’t help the rush of emotions as he embrace the girl as tears fall down his tired eyes.
“kamsa oppa”
Ryeowook muttered and smiled bitterly. Yesung let go and the doctor told him that it was just a minor bruise and he shouldn’t worry about it. He thanked the doctor and led Ryeowook back to the car and drove back to her house.
The drive was silent and neither Yesung nor Ryeowook wanted to start the conversation. A few blocks from their house, Ryeowook finally spoke.
“Can I sleep with you tonight?”
Yesung abruptly stops the car hearing only the continuous rain falling. He looked at Ryeowook who just bowed her head. He was confused although how can she refuse this fragile girl in front of him. He smiled and held her hand.
“I have a spare room anyway, you can use it for a while”
Ryeowook looked at him and saw his smile, somehow she felt a lot better. Yesung made a quick J-turn and they drove back to his apartment instead. He was careful with Ryeowook as he led her to the apartment, Ryeowook wanted to laugh at the sudden attention but at this moment, she couldn’t. Yesung offered her the free room and she settled herself. Yesung noticed her dress was soaking wet.
“unfortunately, I don’t have girls’ clothes to lend you.”
Somehow, Ryeowook felt that that one sentence is really funny and she started to laugh, Yesung scratched the back of his head and smiled.
“An over sized shirt and a dry towel would be enough.”
Ryeowook muttered and Yesung quickly retrieved the said materials. He gave her the items and left her to change. Ryeowook dried her hair and wore the oversized T-shirt, part of it slips down her shoulders. She wonders where Yesung got it since he’s not even bulky or large to start with. She then went out the room to thank Yesung. Yesung saw her and motioned for her to come and sit. She did and Yesung brought out a pot of Ramen.
“It’s just instant.. “
Though it was like that, Ryeowook still thanked YEsung for taking care of her; he was such an adorable oppa.
“what happened to you then? Why are you alone in the rain anyway?”
Ryeowook’s face turned gloomy and Yesung’s brain froze fuck.. you have to ask idiot! Ryeowook put down her chopsticks and bowed her head, YEsung can see the tears falling now.
“I’m sorry.. You don’t have to answer it.. forget about it..”
Ryeowook bit her lower lip and held back the tears and faced Yesung. He can see the hurt and pain in her eyes.
“I’m a fool to assume that he likes me the way I do… I am too blind to see that I am not the girl he likes.. it’s not like the movies that ends in happy ever afters.”
“I’m sorry..”
Yesung muttered but Ryeowook needed someone to talk to right now. She mastered the strength to talk, open up her heart and reveal her innermost heart ache.
“you know what.. I have a bad habit of assuming things will go exactly as I planned it would..”
Ryeowook started and Yesung saw the tears fall uncontrollably. He is aware of her conditions now, yet he still doesn’t know how far her sickness has progressed.
“I like Kyuhyun more than a friend.. I’m sure of it.. He is my best friend and I can’t see my life with out him..”

flash back: earlier that afternoon
“I see you made cookies again.. but we do have an oven for you to use, why go to Yesung?”
Siwon asked his Little sister who was carrying so many boxes of cookies. She smiled and kissed her brother on the cheeks.
“coz I thought him how to bake”
“seriously Ryeowook.. if I didn’t know that you like Kyuhyun, I could swear you like Yesung.”
Ryeowook was speechless for a moment.. why of all people.. why does she feel at ease with Yesung? She dismisses the thought and happily went out with a box of cookies at hand. She didn’t hear his brother’s reminder to bring an umbrella as she headed out. She happily skipped her way and a minute later, she’s two houses down from Kyuhyun’s place. She smiled and momentarily stopped to check herself. But then, she saw Kyuhyun getting out of the house and crossing the street and knocked on the door. Ryeowook was surprised but then she was more surprised when she saw Minnie answering the door. Kyuhyun gave a Minnie a quick kiss on the lips before he enters.
Ryeowook’s heart shattered into pieces, her mind disoriented.. is this the feeling of having your heart broken into several pieces? the box slips from her hand and she slowly walks away from the cruel place. A child picked up the box and opened it.
“noon! Can I have a piece of this?”
Ryeowook didn’t care if he ate the whole box but as her instinct told her, she smiled at the young boy and gave him the entire box. The boy ran away and gave it to her mom who bowed at Ryeowook and thanked her. Ryeowook smiled back before half running, half walking away. She didn’t know where to go but anywhere is good.. just away from that place. She found the lone bench by the curve and sat on it. Dark clouds roll by and slowly, rain drops heavily poured. All around Ryeowook, she can see people trying to get out of the rain yet she just sat there, consumed by the pain in his heart. She cries and cries and it feels like forever. She feels her heart shattered and her head ached. She sat there till her eyes can’t cry anymore, her heart stops beating and she fainted..

RYeowook finds herself crying on Yesung’s chest, hearing his heart beat. She finds the beat peaceful and soon drowsed to sleep. Yesung stroked her hair to calm her and when she was finally asleep, he carried her to the spare room and gently lay her on the bed to sleep. He covered her with the blanket and kissed her forehead before leaving the room and closing the door gently.
He was about to call Siwon when a knock on the front door was heard. He opened it and found Siwon, Leeteuk and Kangin frowning. He let the three enter and led Siwon to the spare room where Ryeowook was sleeping.
“I was about to call you. She wanted to stay here for a while and think.. and just so you know.. nothing happened between us.. she was soaking wet so I lent her my clothes.”
Yesung said and Siwon just nodded, he trusts him anyway.
“I do trust you and thank you for taking care of her.”
Yesung smiled and left Siwon to check up on Ryeowook. He then approached the two who was sitting at the sofa.
“her heart got broken…”
Yesung muttered to answer the questions in their faces.

Monday lunch was as awkward as possible. Ryeowook stood there staring at the two lovebirds, trying hard not to cry at that point. Ryeowook was holding her prepared lunch and clutching the straps of the bag very tightly. Yesung entered the cafeteria and saw Ryeowook staring at the two and sighed. He then smiled brightly and approached Ryeowook.
“Looking for me?”
Ryeowook was surprised and saw Yesung smiling at her.
“oppa…”
Ryeowook softly muttered, tears threatening to fall any minute. Yesung grabbed her hand and led her out of the cafeteria. The rest saw them and were cheering for them, Kyuhyun and Minnie looked at them too.
Ryeowook and Yesung sat on one of the benches inside the campus. Ryeowook was silent and so Yesung ttook the lunch and started eating it. As he tasted it, he noticed a big change in her cooking. It was delicious, yes, but it lacks something.. LOVE
“you know.. it’s not the end of the world… there are a lot of guys out there…”
Yesung muttered while shoving the food inside his mouth.
“a cliché.. I know… it has always been.. there’ll be thousands of guys out there.. only to break my heart..”
Yesung stopped eating and swallowed his food hard.
“I’m sorry..”
Yesung muttered then a voice called their attention; it was Kyuhyun and Minnie.
“hey, Ryeowook, you seemed sad.”
Kyuhyun said and Yesung restrained himself from beating the pulp out of Kyuhyun. it’s your fucking fault and you still dare ask that stupid question
“she has some headache..”
Yesung replied and Kyuhyun introduced Minnie as his girlfriend. Ryeowook shook her hand and was very happy for the two. yeah right she was
“wookie.. I was calling you last time, I was going to introduce her but you never picked up your phone.”
“sorry.. headache is killing me.. I didn’t had the chance to answer it. Nice meeting you.”
Ryeowook clearly lied.
“oh.. yesung oppa, are you and Wookie dating?”
Yesung wanted to say yes but it’ll be a lie.
“yes we are.. I think oppa is so sweet and gentle.”
Yesung was surprised when he heard Ryeowook replied, he smiled yet he knew it’ll be just some excuse not to feel hurt.
“ah yes.. “
Yesung said and the two finally bid goodbye. Ryeowook’s tears finally fell and Yesung hugged her dearly.
“It’s ok.. let it go.. even though it hurts, you have to do it and let go.”
Ryeowook cries harder and Yesung held her tighter.
