It seems like the world is cruel to some people, not only in fictions but in real life. Some are faced with heavy burden like financial crisis or relationship instability. The family that should be the core strength of a person is lacking the much needed values to keep it together. And some were faced with illnesses that slowly takes their life away.

In a society where the culture is known for suicides, hundreds have died by deciding to have a date with Death eventhough it’s not yet their time while others have struggled to survive an surpass such physical weakness brought about by their illnesses by having strong faith.

It is in this sense that two people shall find a certain chance for life and for love.

“I have no intentions of taking over the family business.. I want to do what I love to do and that is singing.”

Jongwoon argued with his father and the latter almost had a heart attack.

“you’re my eldest son Jongwoon and I would want you to take over of it.”

“I maybe your eldest son, but I’m not your only son.”

Jongwoon runs away from home to where he knew he was safe: his best friend Kangin. As a son of a wealthy business man, he’s the natural heir to the business and it’s what expected of him. But like most of the stories regarding wealthy sons as protagonists, this story holds that cliché, he wanted to be a singer more than an heir.

Jongwoon drives his Mercedes Benz to Kangin’s house in the middle of the night.  Yesung drives fast and his head crowded with thoughts. He saw headlights up front and he thought of crashing his car onto the pseeding truck, it’s common anyway. Yet he doesn’t want to set an example for his brother Jongjin whom he loved dearly. He changed his mind and slowed down a bit. He needed to think and maybe a cup of warm coffee would make him feel a little better.

He stopped at a local coffee shop where he usually goes when he needs to think. He ordered his usual cup of latte and the kind lady in her mid 30’s greeted him with a smile.

“you have worries dearie?”

“ahjumma.. just a little..”

“let me fix your favorite cup.”

Yesung smiled and took a seat by the window and sighed. His coffee was served a minute later and he thanked the ajhumma.

“it’s on the house dear, and here’s special cookies for you, my niece baked that for me but I guess you need it more than I do.”

He thanked the ahjumma more and settled himself with the coffee. He took a sip and enjoyed the warmth of the freshly brewed latte made to his standards. He looked at the cookie and took a bite. It was delicious but something made it even more delicious; that something he can’t figure out.

“excuse me.”

He called the ahjumma.

“yes dear?”

“the cookie, what is in it that makes it this delicious?”

The ahjumma smiled and answered back.

“it’s for you to find out”

She then left Jongwoon was left to ponder at the secret ingredient that makes the cookie irresistible.

“Enjoying this hyung?”

Jongwoon shifted his gaze and looked at the direction of the voice, it was his brother Jongjin.

“why do you disagree with destiny?”

Jongjin asked and Jongwoon answered him in his most brotherly manner

“because it’s the one written for me, not by me. Jongjin, there is more to life than being stuck in a situation others chose for you. I have bigger dreams and that doesn’t include fixed marriages and contract deals.”

“so you wish to run away like you always do? Isn’t that childish? Hyung, I know you have dreams to pursue but isn’t it a bit ungrateful to just throw away everything mom and dad worked hard for?”

Jongwoon tries to be the older brother for Jongjin but it seemed that he was always the younger one compared to his mindset.

“it’s not that I asked any of it.”

“but do you think they wanted it too? All these things that you owned are given to you but who worked for it? Dad wishes you to inherit the company but do you think he’ll chose his own dream over his sons’ dreams? Hyung if you could just reason with him, then you might find yourself a deal.”

Jongjin is a reasonable person, a great son and a thoughtful brother. Jongwoon envies him not because he’s the favorite, but because Jongjin has a great sense of reason.

“I’ve been arguing for so long..”

“hyung reason out.. don’t firth.. reason out.”

“it’s pointless now.”

Jongjin hands him an envelope and stood up to leave.

“Hyung this I your last chance, I reasoned with dad and I do hope you’ll learn from this.”

Jongjin left him and Jongwoon pondered the words in his mind: maybe Jongjin was right, he was just plain hotheaded to begin with and never reasons out.
