For Barrett's "voice", I used Cid as a reference, albeit I toned down the swearing and the overall gruffness. Because, gosh, I love those two. They seem so intimidating on the surface but, underneath it all, you can really see that they actually enjoy helping people. Sure they complain while they do it, but it just makes it that much more amusing.
Unfortunately, I've also read alot of fics where Barrett fits every racial stereotype in existence and was determined to avoid that as best I could. I'm happy that I managed to pull it off. As for his interaction with Yuffie, I figured Barrett would treat her the same way he would a rebellious teenage daughter. They do have about twenty years between them, after all.
Yuffie was honestly alot harder to keep in check. Like you mentioned, I didn't want to make her too childish but to still keep that playful sneakiness she has about her. *sigh* She wouldn't behave!
I'm just glad you enjoy this. I feel like I'm still rusty, but hopefully I can start writing a real fic soon. Thanks again for your help! :D
