CHAPTER FIVE: Get His Balls Back
At fifteen to seven Logan came pulling up to Veronica's and knocked on the apartment door. He took extra care to look extra great because this was going to be a special night. He was going to suggest the idea of going public with their relationship. However, when she opened the door, all his efforts to look savvy went out the door. He was speechless. She look hot! His insides almost melted, she was so hot. "Come on in. I am almost ready." He looked around and asked "Has your dad come home yet?" "Yes," she answered from the bathroom, "but he had to leave again to go after another bail jumper." "Ah," Logan replied, "so Duncan is back now." He wouldn't mind telling anyone in the world about his feelings for Veronica. If it were possible he would go the most public place and shout his feelings on the top of his lungs. However, Duncan was another story. "Ready" she said, bouncing out of the bathroom. She locked up and Logan opened the car door for her. "You look very nice, tonight." Veronica smiled and replied "Thank you. And you look very nice, too."
The relatively short ride to the theater seem longer because Logan kept trying to get up the nerve to tell her that he wanted to go public. After several attempts to bring it up, he chickened out and only partly brought the subject to her attention. "So, Meg knows doesn't she?" Veronica tensed and she changed the subject. "You know, tomorrow you should go see Duncan and hang out with him. He could probably use a friend right now." "Yeah," Logan meekly replied. His heart hurt. He wants so badly to ask Veronica why it is so bad for them to go public with their relationship, but as usual he chickens out. "I should probably go to the bathroom to check and see if I have a pussy instead of a pair of balls as I should have," he thought to himself. "So, are we going in separately. What's the plan?" "No, Veronica, this is a date. As in we go in together, sit together, and leave together." His tone was very short, which he was aware of, and Veronica was taken aback. "Okay," she says slowly. Would he be so daring to put his arm around her? He doesn't push his luck. "She is ashamed of me, for some reason," he thought to himself. Then a sudden thought hit him that he instantly tried to push out of his mind; "She's with someone else and that is why she doesn't want to go public." He buys the tickets and they sit down somewhere in the back, in the shadows, and instantly Veronica is cuddling up to him, and the numb feeling comes back. Only this time it is mixed with heart wrenching agony, and it doesn't leave, even when she starts caressing the skin on his hand between his thumb and first finger; even when she starts kissing his neck. The terrible, painful, numb feeling stays. He waits for the fire to manifest so that he can enjoy making out with her, but it never comes. He is just starting to make the assumption that the numbness has something to do with his dislike of where their relationship is at. For some reason that realization causes his to get his balls back.
