Yes, woman are the wives of husbands. But men are also the husbands of wives, are they not?

So I still post, just not usually 'publicly' or with 'friends' even though it's a 'live' journal. I did not die.

But I can post this thing because who cares? It's history homework, come on. And who knows who will be interested in reading about early women's rights in America. It's hilarious when I have fun doing history homework. But I usually choose the creative aspect and MAKE it fun. Since history IS fun.

Letter From Anne Bradstreet’s Perspective
Dear Editor,

I hope you read this letter and take it seriously, even though I am female. I am going to tell you right off the bat that I am a woman. Despite that fact, I hope and pray that you give it a second glance and truly consider what I have to say. Because words and thoughts are what truly matter, not one’s gender.

A woman is considered someone who should stay home and cook, take care of children, and clean. This needs to change. It is fine if a woman chooses to take the role of a housekeeper and do these things, but some women simply are not cut out for this position. It is just like how some men are supposed to be blacksmiths, while others are merchants or farmers, and still others choose to be government officials. I believe that some women like myself are not meant for the role of staying at home. As a woman, I should have the right to have a job of my choice. I should be able to become a doctor or a lawyer, and get a proper education. I should have the right to vote and the right to participate in the government. However, the things I should have, I don’t.

I am often ridiculed for the fact that I am a writer. Poetry is something I do because I love it. I know that I am outspoken in my thoughts and words, and poetry is what I use to express that, though it makes some people upset. Poetry comes naturally to me, and I should have the right to do what I desire without others shunning me or treating me poorly because of it. If I were a man and wrote an amazing poem and handed it to this newspaper, they would probably accept it because of the fact that it was plain good. However, if I were a woman and wrote the exact same poem, it would probably be rejected, all for the simple fact being that I am female. I know I am a good writer, and others must too, though they don’t come out and say it. Yet, I am looked down on it, with many rejection letters by newspapers or magazines. A person should be meant to do what God has planned for them. This brings me to the point that all people were created equal, and therefore should be treated so.

Women are equal to men, whether or not the colonies, England, or anywhere else in the world accepts it or not. A human being is someone with very important thoughts, feelings, and opinions. No matter one’s gender, they are a living person just as their neighbor. Despite how the ways things should be, a woman has continued to be thought of as inferior to a male throughout our history. This is something that needs to change. Yes, woman are the wives of husbands. But men are also the husbands of wives, are they not?
Sincerely,
Anne Bradstreet
