Wow! What a time. I had a great time at NYCC and I sold really well. I met some great artists and saw some great stuff in the city. Overall I was very put off by New York, and the people's attitudes. People there really were rude and in a constant rush. I'm in no hurry to return, but I did enjoy the few things I saw.
I got in pretty late Wed night, and after a scary train ride I met up with
ghinto and got settled into the super swanky ass hotel room. This room was really amazing and it was across from Ghostbuster's library! The next day we met up with
jaquii and
_amaya_ who got in from the airport and we ate delicious breakfast. We also met up with a friend of mine from Sega, Aaron and did some touristy stuff around the city. We saw the Nintendo World store, Kinokuniya book store, the giant Toy R us in Times Square, and then parted ways since
_amaya_ has some fashion show things to take care of. Aaron and I took a gorgeous walk through Central Park and saw the MET which were easily my favorite things about the city. I really don't know how anyone can stand to live in New York otherwise.
Aaron and I in Times Square.
And in central park. This is when we ate something called "moon cakes"
Nintendo world store
Mini Nintendo Museum, there was even a ROB!
After all that walking, all 5 of us met up for some dinner at this sushi place called "Koi" and then collapsed into bed to rest up for the con.
Friday was dead, dead, DEAD. I was sharing a table with
cetriya and both of us did bad on Friday. I had no idea the convention was going to be that segregated. The had organized the large comic Artist Alley upstairs. and the "anime" Artist Alley in a dungeon downstairs behind the escalators. It seemed as though nobody was going to find the place and I was pretty depressed most of Fri. I felt like the con was a bust.
My shanty booth.
Swag from the Sega booth. I'm eating Sonic.
Saturday I got the chance to wear the only costume I brought, Power Girl. I only wore it for a few hours before the exhibit hall opened. I mostly wanted to get photos with Adam Hughes, and I did! He was kind enough to pose with me for a few seconds even though he was busy with signing. I did get to meet him at Megacon, but it was nice to see him in a less hectic situation.
I also got to meet Claudio, the lead Singer of Coheed & Cambria. I love them! He was promoting his comic Kill Audio. Such a soft spoken and awesome guy in person.
A picture
ghinto wanted. Later on that CAPCOM flag got stole from my artist booth. It made us all very sad since we went through the trouble of grabbing the rare swag.
After the hall opened I put normal clothes on and got to my booth. It was SO PACKED and busy, it was very exciting. I did really well and got a mountain of commissions. I even had two people claim to be fans of my artwork, which was really flattering. I also think I got some new readers for Indigo for when I start it back up again. The night I got to try pumpkin spice cheesecake and it was the best I've ever had. Then it was collapsing time.
Sunday was even more hectic and it's one of the few times where I made the most money on a Sunday. I sold out completely of my Phoenix Wright & JSR prints, even the display copies. I think it was because kids got in free on Sunday and a lot of families were there. After packing up my booth and saying goodbyes it was time for one last night in the city.
ghinto treated myself,
_amaya_, and
jaquii like rockstars. We ate at this super awesome Japanese place called Morimoto. It's apparently owned by one of the Iron chefs. The food was pretty delicious and I had Otoro for the first time. It was indeed delicious fatty tuna.
after the amazing trip I was time to rest for a few hours and go through the hassle of traveling. They always ALWAYS take something away from me at the airport, because obviously I look like a terrorist. This time it was my PVC pipes. I was so happy to GTFO of Laguardia & NY and get back to my hometown and my sweetness.
And this right here was one of the best things I got from the con. I got a sketch of Indigo from one of my favorite artists, Mahumud Asrar. I love it!
And there you have a garble, word vomit description of my trip. I'm really excited to expand my display and art table circuit next year. As well as have more Indigo to show off and promote.
It really sucks going on these trips without
aisuzuzwei. I always miss him, and it's always more stressful without his help, but until I become more well know it just doesn't make sense to add in the extra travel costs :( One day he'll be able to come with me all over, one day.
