the discretion of an 8-yr-old
One of my precious third graders was reading to me. I was checking to see if the book she selected was a good fit (not too hard or too easy). She was reading everything with good fluency and expression until she came to the word "boyfriend" and she balked. After a pause, she ventured, "...friend?" My girl thought "boyfriend" was an inappropriate word for school and didn't want to say it in front of her teacher. My heart just melted! I let her know that it's ok to say "boyfriend." What a precious, innocent, darling girl. I love my class.
