I have my land line with Bell, and a cell phone with Rogers. Both owe me $25 dollars: Rogers for applying a fee for changing my phone number when I moved, Bell for having told me in the store that there would be no activation fee for my line since a physical line was already present in my apartment, then coming to a compromise of them giving me back half of it.
The Rogers incident is recent: I changed my number last month because I had been debating keeping my cell phone. I call them today, get told that I shouldn't have that charge because they only apply the fee when it is somebody who simply doesn't like their number anymore, not if it's due to a move or harassment calls. It was obvious that I moved for two reasons: 1. my area code changed from 519 to 416, 2. I changed my billing address for the first time in nearly four years. Their response? Sorry about that, let me apply the credit to your account and here is the new balance you owe. Simple, done in less than five minutes after getting a hold of a customer service rep.
Bell...Bell, Bell, Bell. How do I loath thee? So this charge appeared on my bill for October. I called them on November 10 after receiving my bill. I inform them that I was told there would be no activation fee after having specifically asked this when I was looking into what phone provider to use. I don't have any proof though, because it was done in the store, not over the phone. I point out to them that their charge of $50 dollars for simply flipping a switch to activate the line makes no sense. After about 1/2 hour of being on the phone because the person keeps putting me on hold to look into stuff and talk to her supervisor, I'm informed that they will apply a $25 credit as a compromise. The catch? It isn't immediately applied; I need to wait for my next bill, to which they will apply it. Next bill comes a little early because at the same time I had gotten my phone and internet bundled onto the one bill system (more about this bs in a moment). I call today after noticing that even my newest bill doesn't have the credit applied. I'm informed that this needs to be investigated further because they can no longer view that first bill because it's on 'the old system'. I will hear back from them within 10 business days as to what they conclude. If I don't get that $25 from them, I will be considering stopping my services with them and switching to another company (maybe Rogers).
Now for the one bill issue. In combination with this activation credit, I have determined that Bell doesn't like giving their customers money. Why? Because the one bill allows you to receive a $5 credit for each service you have. But you have to call in after receiving your first bill for a new service in order for this to happen. So even though I signed up for two services at the same time, I didn't receive my $10 credit until after the second month. The only advantage to their bundling service is that you can add to it and still receive a discount eventually, whereas with Rogers you have to buy all service you want to bundle and the same time and they force you into a minimum one year contract.
If you know of a better company to switch my phone and internet to, please tell me.
