Let the countdown begin.

It’s Thanksgiving week here at Casa McBride. Normally, as with a majority of American families who celebrate the day, there’s a fair bit of hustle and bustle in the household this week, while we prepare to ritually gorge ourselves on turkey and starchy side dishes. This week is a little different, since next week we’ll be flying out to Las Vegas for my race and Wedding 2.0, so we’re trying to organize as much stuff as we can now, in an effort to avoid running around at the last minute next week. We’re waiting on my race tee, and my skirt should be arriving today, and then we’ll be all set with everything that’s been ordered.

I got my adorable corset off of Ebay last week, which meant that we headed to my aunt’s house over the weekend to get the hem fixed. Mom is a whiz at doing hems, provided that the pinning is already done, and neither of us wanted to mess with my dress’s hem because we didn’t want to screw up the train. This was the first time that I’d gotten to see the dress on me (and folks on Facebook got to see it, courtesy of ','caption', 'My fantastic husband' );">Eddie posting a picture). When I first bought it (again, an Ebay purchase), I simply took it out of the box made sure that it wasn’t too small for me by lacing it up a little bit, and then brought it upstairs, where it’s been on the bed in the spare bedroom for the last 3 months. We got a phone call yesterday from my aunt letting us know that the dress is all done, so ','caption', 'My fantastic husband' );">Eddie invited her over for a turkey fry on Saturday. Monday, we pack up the dress, ','caption', 'My fantastic husband' );">Eddie’s tux, my hat, our shoes, and probably a couple of assorted things that we can’t afford to lose should our stuff get lost on the flight, and mail them to a friend in Vegas.

Then next Friday we take off for Vegas on an early morning flight, arriving in about 2 hours before we’re allowed to check into the hotel. We’re hoping to be able to go to the race expo and look around there, get my race packet, and then relax for a little while before Mom arrives later on that night.

I’ve got four-day work weeks for the next two weeks. I’m working on Black Friday, but unless we start offering a Black Friday sale on narcotics, I don’t think it will be all that busy. Alas, with Black Friday comes the Christmas music in the store music, and also a month worth of NewTech talking about how she’s got a part-time third job making wreaths.

Which she pronounces “reefs.”

What the hell, is she five? It makes me wonder if how she pronounces spaghetti.
