I should be asleep. It’s icing outside, and I dare not share the road tomorrow with hundreds of people that have no business being on the road when it’s icing. I’m shooting for leaving the house super early. Or not at all. [ETA (5:54 AM) I tried, I really did, but it's just too icy. I had trouble getting out of the apartment complex, for crying out ( Read more... )

Ooo, also, I read the 2nd part after I'd already commented. But congrats about them thinking you'd be a good co-manager!!! :D Good luck! I hope they're ready to give you an interview soon.

It sounds really good, no? I hope my manager is ready to let me go. I know he agreed with me on my plans, but he's also one of those people who has a hard time accepting change. And I'd really like to start the program in early summer, and I told him that. I just don't want him to wait too long to recommend me to the right people.

I know, that kind of thing is really hard. Because you don't want to nag him about it, but it would drive me crazy not knowing whether he had said anything yet. So I'd probably wait a few weeks and then ask him if he hasn't said anything yet. But I don't know how he would react to that...some people are really sensitive if they think they're being "nagged" about something. I hope he won't take it like that! Hopefully he'll have enough time to work up to the idea of you leaving. If you don't want to go til the summer, he has more than enough time to get used to the idea of change...

The word has to first get to his district superior. So I could always go to my district superior who has nothing to do with him, really, but who will be undoubtedly involved in the process at some point.
I'd really hate for this to be dragged out and the program to fill up before I get a chance. I don't think it's wise to go through the program during a time that I would also have to support Patrick's school and home work. I would have to wait until the next summer. It's a 17 week long process, and I would have to be out of town four times for a week at the time.

Oooo, that's a big time commitment! I see why you want to get it done now. Well, I think it's totally reasonable for you to be proactive about it and to talk to whoever you need to talk to for you to get things moving along as soon as you can. Good luck with it, and I hope you get it!! And don't be afraid to go out and make it happen. If your boss seems to be dragging his feet about it, just be firm with him and remind him that you need to get this done soon.
