When Palin found out her new baby would have Down's Syndrome, she didn't tell any of her other kids. She waited until they saw him for the first time, until one girl asked about it. The kids said they were shocked that she knew and didn't say anything. When they asked why, she said she "didn't know how to break the news." She found out at 13w, gave birth at 35w--she couldn't come up with anything?? The US VP often does quite a bit of PR and international diplomacy. I think we probably need someone who can explain things a little better than that.
