Last night I attended Sarah's viewing with a couple of my high school
girl friends. It was very somber, but cheerful. Nobody wanted to dwell
on the horrific details surrounding her untimely death, but happy to
share stories. Everything looked beautiful, sweet and feminine, just
like I remember Sarah.
Jenn and Holly were hesitant to introduce themselves to Sarah's family,
so I led the way. Her mother was so warm and sweet. She actually
remembers us, which left us feeling stunned and happy. I think we can
all agree when I say that we did the right thing by attending the
viewing. None of us could call ourselves Sarah's best friend,
but we certainly never forgot her since our high school years.
It was strangely fitting, too, that the news reported later in the
evening that the police took someone into custody for DNA testing.
Seems the cops are working quickly to close the case. I hope Sarah's
family, friends and loved ones can make it through these difficult
days.
I took off of work this afternoon at OASC so I could meet the
Cooperative Teacher I have for student teaching. She is awesome,
and any worry or anxiety I had before has now diminished. I can
tell already that we will get along and that she will offer me all the
support or independence I need.
The teacher's school day will be an early start, she likes to be at the school around 6:45-7:00. Yikes!
"Of course you don't need to be here until 7:20, Jackie, and you can
leave as soon as that bell rings at the end of the day." For as nice as
that sounds, I'll probably be in extra early to prepare and socialize
with the other faculty. She tutors twice a week after school, so
I might hang out for that once and a while as well.
I'm going to love this experience. I will probably post all the details on LJ, so look out for that!
Should probably come up with a really creative Tag.
Also, what factoids should I reveal to the students on the first day?
Probably shouldn't mention the time I did in the Pen. ::shrugs::
