School's been back in. It's actually pretty cool I guess. My favorite class has to be my Special Ed Tutor class. Those kids are incredible and it really makes me feel good to see them learn and take on new challenges. Probably one of the most satisfying things I've yet to do with my life.
Wednesday I got to hang out with Nathan before school :) It was great :) I wonder how many little breakfast sessions we've had :) Although, sadly, when I got to school my day turned from awesome to shitty. Mr. Hillberg informed me that my friend Dana Hooter had died that morning....Wow. Talk about a brick hitting you. I sat there trying to take it all in, but ugh. When I had Math last semester, it was with her, and she was teaching me the midpoint formula, and sure enough, that day we learned about midpoint formula. It's pretty hard to handle when your first friend dies...No one made any mention of it in Advisory but instead we talked of Senior Projects and how we're all not going to get into college if we don't take tests...Gosh....At lunch I broke down on Nathan who was still on campus visiting friends. If it weren't for him, I don't know what I would have done. And as the day wore on, I found out that she overdosed on heroin....I don't really want to get into all the details of the rest of my evening because it's very unglamourus and I don't want to start my day off shitty again. But needless to say, I feel very numb. I saw her the day before she died and she sincerely said that I should come around her group sometime and spend a lunch with them and gave me a big hug; and on my way home I saw her under some trees and she gave me her infamous head knod. Man....not a good deal...
So basically too cope with all of this, Nathan and I have been hanging out a lot more as he's trying to keep my mind off all of this. So we hung out Friday and last night. We went to the Ray St. art show last night and there was this wonderful old fashioned jazz band there that sang songs like "Kansas City" and Nathan grabbed my hand and we slow-danced in front of everyone :)
Anyways, today I am just kind of kicking it around the house doing some English homework....ugh. Nathan might come over after work for a few hours but that all depends.
If you're interested in the news story on Dana, here you go.
-Part 1-
A 16-year-old San Diego girl was found dead Wednesday, and her boyfriend was arrested in connection with the case.
Homicide investigators, whose investigation is in its preliminary stages, said Dana Hooter, 16, was found dead on Wednesday morning in the Golden Hill neighborhood.
Paramedics were dispatched to the 2400 block of F Street at about 5:30 a.m.
A neighbor told NBC 7/39 that around that time, he heard an awful scream come from inside the home where Dana lived with her mother.
A homicide team determined that the 16-year-old was injected with some sort of street drug by her boyfriend, Erin Correa, 19. Detectives think that she died from a drug overdose.
"We did conduct some interviews during the day today and processed the scene inside the home," said San Diego police Lt. Kevin Rooney. "During that time -- between 7 and noon -- we were able to determine it was the boyfriend who ended up administering the drug to her."
Detectives said that they arrested Correa without incident and that he'll be booked into the county jail.
Investigators hope to learn more about the incident from an autopsy scheduled for Thursday.
-Part 2-
A man accused of injecting a fatal dose of heroin into his 16-year-old girlfriend pleaded not guilty Friday to a murder charge and furnishing drugs to a minor.
Erin Patrick Correa, 19, was ordered held in lieu of $1 million bail.
He is accused in the death of Dana Hooter on Wednesday.
Deputy District Attorney Nicole Cooper told Judge David Szumowski that Correa had a long history of heroin abuse and a 2005 conviction for robbery.
The defendant was staying at a sober living home and met the victim a few months ago, the prosecutor said.
The night before the victim died, Correa took a half-gram of heroin with him when he and the victim went to her Golden Hill residence on F Street while her mother was at work, Cooper said.
The victim had never used heroin before, the prosecutor said.
The prosecutor said Correa injected a small amount of the drug into himself and then injected the victim with the remainder.
"They passed out," the prosecutor said.
Correa woke up, saw the victim was foaming at the mouth and instinctively moved her limbs to see if she was all right, Cooper said.
Correa decided the victim was fine and went back to sleep, Cooper said.
When the defendant woke up at 5:30 a.m., the victim was dead, the prosecutor said.
Correa faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
A status conference was scheduled for Jan. 19.
