Since I last posted, I've seen two more Broadway shows (and driven back to Chicago, but more on that later). My friends and I have season tickets to a theater here in Chicago, and one of our plays is this Thursday. I'm not sure I can take it!
(
Saturday - Guys and Dolls. )
Oh my gosh, are you serious???? How did you...not strangle her before the second act? I'm so sorry.
So, we are like, Broadway twins or something, because I saw West Side Story when it was here in DC in December. And, uh...well, I wasn't a fan. It's a shame you didn't get to see the original Anita, because she's the best thing about the show. She's this tiny little woman, and like, 19 years old - who is just incredibly talented. With Tony, you really weren't missing much. He was pretty underwhelming.
I actually...was torn about the "tough" dancing. On the one hand - yeah, they could dance very well, and the dancing was great. On the other hand - it took away from the supposed "toughness" of these guys that they were doing ballet. I mean, I know, I get it, but still.
I loved the "Somewhere" ballet, too. That was probably my favorite part of the show. And, I kind of hated the Spanish. Again, I get it, but also...to sound like a totally rude American - you're in America. Most of your audience speaks English. So, say it in English. I've seen the movie and know the basic plot, but it's not one of the musicals I have memorized, so I actually didn't know what was going on for a lot of those Spanish speaking scenes. (Except for "I Feel Pretty.")
Oh, and ITA with going to see Guys and Dolls again in 3 months. I was thinking that, too. I guess they've been doing it now, for what, a few months? It would be interesting to go back in like, July and see how it is.
How was Oliver Platt at your show? Was he Oliver Flatt?
