Just come back from a three-day trip to Northumberland. Twas a trip of mixed fortunes. I spent one day salmon-fishing. Duncan, a friend who came with us, caught two 14-pounders. Then I hooked one. The battle went on for more than half an hour. It was like having a slab of concrete at the end of my line. Anyway, with every muscle in my shoulder burning like hell, and this bloody thing running off down the river at every opportunity, the inevitable happened - the line snapped. I wouldn't have minded if it had got off after a couple of minutes of hooking it - but half a bloody hour! Bastard fish. Somewhere in the River Tyne there's a 20lb-plus salmon with a great big hook stuck in its gob and half a mile of line hanging off it.
The next day we went to Alnwick Castle, where they filmed all the Hogwarts exterior shots for the Harry Potter films. I love castles and this one is pretty impressive. The only problem was that as the morning went on I started feeling really rough, then really sick. Needless to say, I was desperate to get out of there and back on the road to the hotel. I had visions of me hurling all over the Duke of Northumberland's priceless family heirlooms. Or, even worse, hurling over the very ground Harry Potter had trodden on. About 10 minutes out of Alnwick I puked my guts up over an ancient stone wall, thankfully, in the middle of nowhere.
I hate being sick. What I hate even more is being sick so violently it comes out of both your mouth and your nose. Five minutes after throwing my throat and nose were really sore. My nose, particularly, felt weird and blocked. I didn't want to do it, but I had to give it a good blow. Out came the tissue....no wonder my nose felt sore. I blew out half a mushroom (a remnant of that morning's breakfast). Ewww. That freaked me. I obviously don't chew my food properly because this thing was perfect. In fact, I could have eaten it it looked so perfect.
i think I've gone too far now. The rest of the trip was fine.
Oh, and I did all my Christmas shopping this morning in one huge spending spree. How organised is that!
