Saturday was so much fun. Brian and I saw Wicked at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood. It was amazing. I knew a little bit about it from friends and family who have seen it, and from listening to the soundtrack. My in-laws bought me the CD for my birthday so I listened to it non-stop for a week before the show. Also great. But really, there was so much that I didn't see coming. Beyond the storyline and it being a great show the cast was phenomenal. I was completely in awe of the talent on stage. Perhaps because it was live, but they were so much better than the cast on the soundtrack. If you haven't seen the show, go. Just go. It is absolutely worth whatever you pay for tickets.
After the show we walked up and down Hollywood Blvd looking at the walk of fame like typical tourists and then had dinner at The Cheesecake Factory (thank you Rie and Lisey!). It was so good. We only had to wait 40 minutes to get a table, which for a Saturday night in LA I thought wasn't bad. Plus we walked around Barnes & Noble while we waited so we were entertained. And of course, though I shouldn't have, we saved room for dessert. Come on, you seriously can't go to The Cheesecake Factory for the first time and NOT try a piece of cheesecake!
Yesterday I was on call and Brian had to go in to work for most of the day. When we were both home in the evening we just relaxed and played Stratego. Ok, I relaxed and played Stratego. The game seriously stresses Brian out. Interestingly enough, I won :) Then I got called in to work and on my way I saw a truck flying down the road.. on base..and then watched him run a red light. Then I saw 12 police cars, MPs and city police, with lights and sirens following him. 12. I counted.
When walking into the ER for work I saw two guys registering. Guy #1 is all bloody and holding his hand. Guy #2 keeps saying "Man your thumb is cut bad. You're really bleeding bad, man. I mean, you're cut bad." I didn't think anything of it. A guy comes to the ER for some stitches. No big deal.
While I'm with my patient I hear them call a code 55 overhead. Violent person. Then another code 55. By the time I took my patient back to the ER it was a mess. Guy #1 is in a private room with police watching him, restrained and sedated. Guy #2 has been moved from a private room to a second private room because he destroyed the first one. He locked himself in and went on a rampage breaking things and throwing things around and, as a result, covering the room in blood from where ever he was bleeding. When I walked though with my patient I looked at the room, it looked like someone had painted it and everything in it red.
Looking at the hallways in the ER there had clearly been a disturbance. Carts and supplies were knocked over everywhere and the floors had blood all over them. Everyone was just trying to calm down and clean it all up. Our poor attending doctor apparently had his life threatened while in a choke hold and man was he pissed off. "Joe, you make sure you write down EVERYTHING he broke!"
From "man you're thumb is bleeding" to threats, blood, 3 sheriffs, 8 police, and all of our hospital security in 20 minutes. And I missed all the action.
