wedding photography
My dad tells me today that he is not going to pay for the photographer and he can't afford to come to my wedding. I am honestly in shock. Matthew's parents have already purchased his plane ticket (with insurance thankfully) and I already have a place for him to stay there. I guess the most heartbreaking part is that a girl needs her dad to walk her down the aisle and i will never have that. This really putts Matthew and I in a hard spot as well, b/c we are getting married in almost 5 months and have no photographer. . . no engagement pictures, no wedding pictures, no reception pictures. and have to come up with the money for one when we haven't been saving up for that because we have been paying off other things. Next week i am getting a third job so that we can hopefully begin to have money to pay for a photographer. They are so expensive. The guy I want to use requires a retainer fee of 1,800 then the other 1,800 1 month before the wedding. we were going to fly him to Hawaii to take pictures around the island and of the wedding and of course the reception. I've looked into using a photographer in Hawaii and it is almost just as expensive and all you get are 45 5x6 or 5x7's. a photo cd is $400!!!! I would rather have just the photo cd, NO 5x7s to make my own prints mainly because we are going to want 8x10's or 14x11's...not so much a "brag book" of photos.

2 hours, 60 4x6 prints and up to 60 imagesin a 24 surface flush mount Kingston album
a cd of pictures: $400
All i really want is the cd of pictures...do not want 4x6's. we would rather order a la cart 8x10's, 11x14's etc. i can put our own book together for MUCH cheaper. and how will i know if i can just go online and order anytime i want to??? which is why i want the CD. plus i will have to hire someone in Louisville to do engagement and reception pictures.
Todd Nicols: I love him b/c he knows exactly what i want and is willing to go around the island the day before the wedding and shoot us "engagement" style over there!!! also he will be doing our engagement session in Louisville, the wedding, adn the reception. saving us money...

the retainer fee is $1,800, then 1,800 due the month before the wedding. :( 3,600 for his cheapest package a la cart. includes a CD. :) plus we'd have to buy his plane ticket and provide hotel. if my dad doesn't go i can use his ticket. and he can stay with my best friend for half the price of us getting him his own hotel...the only reason i feel more inclined to use Todd is that i get more pictures, more coverage, more time, and a cd. in the end it will end up being a little bit more expensive but i feel more worth it...
i do not want to be "cheap" on the pictures because you only do this once, and i can't "re-do" the wedding pictures... and i am not sure if i should video tape it or not.. if so that is more money.. i do not mind spending more money on photography because it is like the most important part.
