day 28 - good character you would like to play in some opera
"Good" is a loaded term. Most interesting characters are at least a bit morally ambiguous and most overtly virtuous characters are dull as ditchwater. And who is "good" anyway? How, for example, would one classify Captain "Starry" Vere in Billy Budd?
What the Hell. I'm going to pick Rodrigo, Marquis of Posa from Verdi's Don Carlo. It's certainly an intriguing and challenging role. I've heard it sung to great effect by Simon Keenleyside but this clip is of Israeli baritone, airforce captain and computer programmer Boaz Daniel singing the role in Tel Aviv.
