Day Two: Nine things about yourself.
1. I was quite small for my age for much of my childhood and the idea that i was small didn't go away even when I was 1m84 tall and weighed 95kg. It was only when the coach of a rugby team I was playing for sent me in off the bench because he wanted "more physical presence" that I internalised the idea that I was not small. I was about 40 at the time.
2. I think about mathematics a lot. Not necessarily complicated stuff but just reassuring myself that I can still construct, in my head, a proof for why root 2 is irrational or similar. Also why so much that is intuitive to mathematicians completely baffles most other people.
3. I had never lived with a cat until ten years ago when Leela came to live with us.
4. I read much more non-fiction than fiction.
5. I've worked in 13 countries, more than half the states in the USA and every Canadian province except PEI.
6. I have a small scar on the back of my left eyeball from where I was poked in the eye with a stick when I was small. This tends to freak out optometrists.
7. I once shared a student union meat pie with Robin Cook.
8. I'm a pack rat. It is very hard for me to throw things away. That is probably why I still own ice axes and crampons that I am most unlikely ever to use again.
9. I believe markets are supposed to serve people and am somewhat baffled that most people seem to believe the opposite or at least vote for people who do.
